Job Description

The Quality Control Specialist (QCS) is responsible for the construction quality and commissioning oversight of distributed generation and utility scale PV generators, including those with battery storage solutions, to ensure that the engineered plans, contractual requirements, local and national codes, and industry recognized the best methodologies are followed. QCS plays a key role, integral to the success of the project and the company by ensuring that a safe, efficient project is delivered through robust inspections and documentation processes for all phases of construction and testing.

Responsibilities:

Inspect and maintain quality control and testing documents for projects within assigned region with occasional visits to some areas outside of their jurisdiction.

Routine auditing of the contractor’s quality program and documentation

Work alone or with a team to perform and document systematic inspections and test data review including:

Approval and documentation of reference installations to set standards for different facets of construction

Periodic inspections and documentation of sites and installed equipment

Verification of testing means and methods as well as initial test data review

Verify safety practices during site visits

Communicate clearly, concisely, and with professionalism to the project team, vendors, and investors so that they are aware of any issues found and verify the remediations once completed

Work closely with the commissioning team to ensure the project, or portions of the project, are safe to energize

Join project meetings weekly (at a minimum) to discuss issues and solutions

Familiarize yourself with project specific equipment by reading installation and operation manuals

Attend required safety and equipment trainings

Deliver a weekly quality control tracker for each project

Shift and respond to changing priorities

Participate in preconstruction meetings with engineers and subcontractors to review plans and any project specific information

Maintain and calibrate tools (e.g., meters, torque wrenches, etc.) and PPE (e.g., hot gloves, hot sticks, etc.)

Meticulous documentation of inspections, issues, and remediations

Punch list generation, management, and close out

General administrative tasks such as booking travel, managing expenses, etc.

Primary Qualifications:

  • Completed 2-year technical degree, equivalent qualifications, or equivalent education/experience.

  • Five (5) or more years of proven experience as a PV QA/QC technician.

  • NFPA 70E Qualified Person.

  • OSHA 30.

  • Proficiency with testing and commissioning procedures and documentation.

  • Basic knowledge of power facility equipment, as well as control and communication devices.

  • Ability to read and interpret plan sets, schematics, and equipment specifications.

  • Soft skills such as organization, good communication, professionalism, quick learner, independend and analytical, with capability of making quick decisions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Past or current electrical licensure

  • Experience with AC and /or DC coupled battery systems a plus

  • Familiarity with Procore

  • FAA Remote Pilots License (or achieved within 1 year of hire)

  • Position requires extensive regional travel (typically limited to weekdays, however schedule varies with demand) 50%!

Working outside

Normal solar power plant and/or office environment, including working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures, and high/low humidity areas

Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment

Requires use of wear personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)

May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals

Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities.

Work overtime and non-standard working hours as the need arises
