AES Commodity & Energy Market Analyst in Virginia

The Commodity/Energy Market Analyst produces market and performance reports, analyzes market opportunities and procurement transactions, using modeling and valuation techniques. Current AES focus is on coal, LNG, Green Hydrogen/Green Ammonia, bulk freight.

Primary Duties

  • Prepare Market Reports using Specialized Subscriptions, Bloomberg Terminal, Morningstar Terminal, Allegro ETRM, AI/ML Optimization Tool, and other available internal and external market information.

  • Define and Evaluate Business Risks bringing transparency to the decision-making process.

  • Employs tools such as Monte Carlo simulation, Value at Risk, Sensitivity Analysis.

  • Monitor and Advise the AES Fuels Team on Spot and Forward Commodity Market Trends.

  • Evaluate Fuel and Freight Tenders and Proposals, Fuel and Freight Optimization Projects.

  • Review business development projects and their fuel logistics to verify or suggest changes.

  • Assist during negotiation, reviewing contracts and providing financial analysis.

  • Assist developing structured transactions.

  • Monitor and Report AES global current and projected inventory position (volume and value)

  • Monitor and Report AES Fuels Team Benefits and Savings results by Region and Global.

E xperience/Qualifications

  • Experience in a Commodity Management Organization, desirable.

  • Experience presenting financial analysis information.

  • Ability to form views on direction of markets, volatilities, correlations, and relationships.

  • Capable of working effectively both as a team member and independently.

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.

  • Ability and desire to learn technical skills quickly and independently.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.

  • Gin-config or similar, desirable.

  • Trading commodities experience desirable, but not required.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (preferably engineering). Master’s degree desirable.
