Note: the hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher Lead Solar Tech level dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience.

Employees in this classification periodically work on government projects subject to prevailing wage requirements.

The Solar Electrician Level III (C&I Solar Tech III) is responsible for installing and/or maintaining all aspects (e.g. electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.) of commercial solar systems in a safe, high quality, and efficient manner. This includes installation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and performance monitoring and evaluation. This role requires team leadership, mentoring of less experienced and low level employees, as well as periodic supervision of such team members.

The Lead Solar Electrician (Lead C&I Solar Tech) is responsible for direct field supervision of small to medium-scale (30kW to 600kW) solar installation projects, ensuring production goals, craftmanship standards, and safety practices are met. On larger projects, may work under a superintendent to help increase efficiency.

SOLAR ELECTRICIAN LEVEL III (C&I SOLAR TECH III)

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • High School/GED

  • 5 plus years of related work experience

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Drivers License

Desired and Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • 5 years’ experience of solar electric systems

  • 4 years’ experience of commercial electrical, and general construction experience

  • OSHA 10 certified (OSHA 30 preferred)

  • Preferred CPR/FA certified (not required)

  • Experience with equipment (forklift, scissor, boom etc.) required, (certs preferred)

  • Maintain a high attention to detail and quality

  • Physically able to perform all tasks related to installation

  • Math ability in relation to electrical calculations (NEC: de-rates, wire sizing, conduit/box fill, etc.)

  • Proficient in rigging equipment for rooftop loading

  • Current JW card or (If not ready for lead position) ET card (Electrical Trainee card) 4 years minimum

  • Computer and App proficient (Cloud based apps ie: Procore, Microsoft 360)

  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and OSHA regulations, specifically strong working knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) and 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace)

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret plan sets and one line diagrams as they pertain to PV solar installations

  • Experience working in 480v 3-phase electrical gear, SCADA equipment, wireless, micro-grid, battery storage, SEL relays and meters

  • Experience executing a safety plan in the field

  • Ability to lead groups of workers, provide detailed instructions, and inspect work

  • Some Vocational/Technical/Business School or college is desirable

  • Ability to think critically and solve problems

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and help install all aspects of safety during mobilization of job sites

  • Install the AC and DC electrical sections of solar electric systems, including racking, conduit wiring systems/methods above and below ground, module installation, Inverter installation, and configuring DC strings and homeruns

  • Proficient in rooftop, canopy, underground, and equipment pad layouts

  • Familiar with the use hand benders up to 1”, triple nickles, and table benders

  • Work on electrical systems (including low voltage data monitoring) including conductor/equipment testing and troubleshooting

  • Aid in the installation of non-energized equipment, conduit, and wire under the supervision of an authorized Lead or Superintendent

  • Work with leads to track and test wires through megger process

  • Work with leads to receive deliveries, manage tools, equipment, and materials

  • Track time and quantity of material installed via unit reporting methods

  • Communicate to Construction Manager or Construction Superintendent potential problems

  • Install and/or maintain solar systems

  • Provide team leadership, mentoring, and guidance

  • Perform onsite troubleshooting, identify root cause of an issue and/or recommend corrective actions

  • Complete all documentation and reporting in a timely manner including construction management, project management, and administration forms and online tools

LEAD SOLAR ELECTRICIAN (LEAD C&I SOLAR TECH)

Specific Job Requirements:

  • Drivers License

  • High School/GED

  • 7 years of commercial electrical experience or 5 years construction supervision

  • First Aid/CPR Certified

Desired and Preferred Job Qualifications:

  • Experience working in 480v 3-phase electrical gear

  • Proficient with heavy equipment (forklifts, reach forklifts, scissor lifts, etc.)

  • Experience executing a safety plan in the field

  • Computer knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project

  • Proficient with spelling, punctuation, grammar, and basic business math

  • Knowledge of commercial electrical and general construction

  • Ability to lead large groups of workers, provide detailed instructions, and inspect work

  • Some Vocational/Technical/Business School or college is desirable

  • Strong sense of quality - ensure high quality work on independent and crew level

  • Ability to think critically and solve problems

  • General Journeyman electrician's certification

  • OSHA 30 training and NABCEP certification

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and direct in-field construction and subcontracted resources (labor, sub-contractors, rental equipment, tools, and materials)

  • Install systems and/or supervise installation work

  • Work with Project Management to develop accurate construction schedule forecasts, and update management with project costs

  • Accurately complete QC reports, project testing, commissioning documents, and daily job site logs in a timely manner

  • Provide clear, detailed, and accurate instruction to workers

    Working Conditions:

    Both positions require 75% overnight travel throughout the United States and working outdoors in a wide variety of conditions and at elevation.

  • Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 100 pounds)
