Position Summary

Roles within Utility Services are responsible for all dispatch and utility operations, relating to scheduled maintenance, repair and emergency response for natural gas mains, meters, and services. This typically includes ensuring all meters, both residential and commercial, are operating safely and in compliance with state regulations. This role will be responsible for above ground fieldwork typically relating to natural gas emergencies and emergency response, incident management, natural gas service activation and customer requests concerning natural gas service, natural gas meter maintenance and repair, and record/data retention. This also includes monitoring work and processes throughout the day to ensure emergencies and customer appointments are responded to within defined time parameters. This is a role that contributes through the direct supervision and/or leadership of others by accomplishing results through those subordinate team members.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise the field operation and maintenance of the natural gas distribution system and the inspection of the natural gas distribution system, including staff of above ground emergency response field personnel operating 24 hours-a-day/7 days-a-week represented by UWUA Local 424.

  • Coordinate with other Supervisors and teams to meet area work and output requirements.

  • Assist in the operation of the division during significant events, storms, or other periods of high activity. 

  • Prioritize and assign technical resources internally and externally to ensure tasks are completed, and goals and objectives are met.

  • Promote a strong safety culture, including coaching and mentoring performance for continuous improvement, as well as conducting documented job site observations.

  • Investigate customer inquiries and complaints.

  • Lead or participate in various activities related to work methods, policy and procedure review, tools, safety, yard, trucks, and material. 

  • Lead and conduct monthly safety and team information meetings.

  • Review and approve events/incidents, as well as leading or participating in incidents if/when they occur.

  • Assist with employee training and development, as well as coordinating with other shared services to ensure completion of required training and qualifications as needed.

    As an employee you should be aware that during significant incidents or storm restoration efforts, you may be required to perform functions outside of your routine duties and on a schedule that may be different from normal operations/operating hours.

Qualifications

Required Skills :

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage field operations.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • A bility to multi-task during emergency situations.

  • Supervisory experience of a field operations workforce.

  • A pplicants must possess a valid US driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driver history , as t his position requires driving to company locations and off-site assignments and events .

    Required Background :

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the utilities industry .

  • In addition, a minimum of 1 year of team lead/coaching experience is required.

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

    Preferred Skills :

  • S upervision of a u nion workforce.
