OSP Engineer I:

The Outside Plant Engineer I is responsible for providing/coordinating the design, engineering, and permitting of outside plant design for telecommunications infrastructure projects. You will ensure the compliance and timely delivery, of all OSPE projects, in such a manner as to provide the highest quality of services to SAM customers.

  • Interpret underground, direct buried, and aerial telecom facilities records on maps and fielding notes

  • Execute the permitting, and documentation of communications infrastructure

  • Assist in troubleshooting plant mapping and design

  • Perform other tasks as assigned

OSP Engineer II or III:

The OSP Engineer / Designer will work collaboratively with the engineering / design team on the production of outside plant design for fiber-based telecommunications infrastructure projects and will report to the Project Manager – OSP Engineering and Design.

Responsibilities will include the planning, design, permitting, and documentation of communications infrastructure, with an emphasis on Road Moves and OSP fiber optic cable infrastructure projects such as FTTx, and 5G. Extensive knowledge of the standards and specifications of utility Right-of-Way owners, utility owners and OSP construction practices for fiber optic cable plant is required

  • Consult with customers to define requirements and preferred construction methods

  • Coordinate field surveys of outside plant aerial and underground network facilities; develop running line, splice sheets, loss budgets and other design elements

  • Research and define local jurisdictional regulations, coordinate permit application process and ensure that design conforms to specifications

  • Interpret underground, direct buried, and aerial telecom facilities records on maps and fielding notes

  • Coordinate make-ready-engineering process with utility owners

  • Monitor and evaluate design quality and scheduled delivery as defined by the Engineering Manager

  • Coordinate make-ready-construction with utility owner and third-party attachments

  • Liaise with OSP field teams and client to determine component selection, routing and network architecture guidelines in order to produce detailed designs

  • Work with the construction project managers and field personnel to ensure quality and timely delivery of design and engineering services

  • Assist in troubleshooting plant mapping and design

  • Ensure system compliance with FCC and FAA regulations and operating specifications

  • Evaluate design for engineering and support design process improvement definition and execution

What You Bring to SAM

For OSP Engineer I:

  • 2+ years of progressively responsible experience in the telecommunication industry

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or 2+ years of experience in major job elements

  • Experience using telecommunications design software e.g. Bentley Microstation , 3-GIS, ArcFM, Aramis-DT, Magellan, WALDO, AutoCAD

  • Familiarity with design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of outside plant design and construction work prints

  • Strong organization, solutions, task delegation and project management skills

  • Experience with OSP telecommunication industry engineering processes and practices, and their impact on project activities

  • Minimum 2+ years of field experience or experience supervising field crews

  • Ability to work effectively with employees, department management, contractors and consultants in a professional

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

  • Ability to analyze data and prepare written reports

  • Ability to read and interpret electronic and pdf roadway plans

  • Ability to read power company relocation plans

  • Ability to access, request and read utility records

  • Ability to access city or county resources to determine right-of ways

For OSP Engineer II or III:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or 5+ years of experience in major job elements

  • 5+ years of relevant telecommunication industry experience required. Preferably in AT&T internal systems – CFAS, MIC, IMAGINE, FACS, TIRKS, SHOTS, LFACS, AOTL, and other necessary support documentation as needed

  • Strong experience with Bentley Microstation and Aramis-DT CAD systems is a major plus, Road Moves required

  • Strong knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in production of outside plant designs

  • Strong organization and project management skills

  • Strong knowledge of RF and optical networks is a plus

  • Familiarity with design standards relative to FTTP, FTTB, and FTTC is a plus

  • Experience with OSP telecommunication industry engineering processes and practices, and their impact on project activities
