Summary

Under the purview of the Transmission Construction Manager and Field Construction Coordinator Sr (FCC Sr.), the Field Construction Intern supports all Transmission construction projects, providing general and specific project information to stakeholders. The Field Construction Intern supports the FCC Sr. who is responsible for requesting field design changes by the project engineer, documenting all changes to the construction prints, and coordinating multiple aspects of the project with Transmission Construction Management and contractor personnel.

The Field Construction Intern must be able to work safely under physical, mental, and environmentally demanding and potentially hazardous conditions. This role requires a high percentage of on-site presence at one or more sites. Considerable travel is required to fulfill the duties of this position.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, the Field Construction Intern:

  • Coordinates multiple contract crews on multiple projects through management of multiple contractor FCC’s.

  • Performs Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) through management of multiple contractor FCC’s.

  • Assists, trains, and develops FCC’s to improve their skill and experience level and to maintain a uniform interpretation of standard work practices.

  • Assists contractor FCC’s with coordination of material needs and material delivery.

  • Maintains relationships throughout Oncor and outside companies and effectively exchanges information with multiple parties both internal and external to Oncor to resolve issues and to maintain efficient workflow of a project.

  • Interfaces with Transmission Grid Management and other utilities on all clearances, holds, and reclosers required for projects.

  • Validates actual work completed on all construction projects. This includes time and equipment on hourly projects.

  • Regularly reports to various stakeholders on project status and conditions and develops documentation reports and procedures that are clearly understood and easy to apply.

  • Identifies construction and system risks and helps formulate contingency plans to avoid unnecessary consequences.

  • Reacts to emergency situations to provide manpower and materials where necessary.

  • Interprets safety rules and does not hesitate to enforce them.

  • Makes recommendations to the Transmission Construction Manager concerning the safety of design and methods of construction as well as helping to improve work practices.

  • Ensures compliance of all applicable laws and regulations associated with construction activities.

  • Performs all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED or equivalent is required.

  • Pursuing an Associate's degree in a related field.

  • Broad knowledge of Transmission operations and maintenance and Transmission line and substation construction activities and materials.

  • Comprehensive understanding of the potential impact that construction activities can have on system reliability.

  • Able to constantly prioritize and reprioritize tasks resulting from changes in resources, materials, weather, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to use normal office programs

  • Ability to respond effectively and favorably to change. Can adjust and accept changes in priorities without undue loss of productivity

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of internal and external team members, both verbally and in writing.
