Engineer (P&C Sub Station)
This single vacancy is considered "HYBRID". On-site reporting is required two (2) days per week.
This position is posted as a range. Qualifications, education and experience will be considered in determining appropriate grade. See basic qualifications for each grade. Position responsibilities and accountabilities will vary accordingly based upon the assigned classification.
Responsible to the assigned supervisor for performing intermediate level engineering work activities and projects requiring the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient and economic accomplishment of assigned objectives.
P&C Engineer Accountabilities:
Perform and Review relay protection and control activities for 4kV thru 765KV electrical substation projects.
Prepare and Review P&C scopes for electric substation projects.
Prepare and/or review P&C engineering settings and designs for electrical substation projects.
Prepare and Review Relay Setting Calculation Sheets, Setting Files and other relay setting deliverables for substation projects.
Perform area protection studies and recommend settings for existing and new transmission line and station protection schemes.
Model transmission system impedances and perform short circuit fault studies.
Perform activities related to NERC P&C standards. Prepare and review PRC-023, FAC-008 etc. NERC required documents.
Review, evaluate and provide P&C comments and recommendations on transmission system planning proposals.
Coordinate with transmission customers and interconnected companies on associated protection issues.
Provide engineering support for project installation, commissioning, checkout and troubleshooting.
Provide general P&C technical support, as needed, including the technical interfaces with Telecomm, Operations, Transmission Region Operations, Station Engineering, Transmission Planning and Project Management.
Peer Review and approve P&C related work of other team members. Manage, Oversee and peer review P&C related work of outsource companies.
Identify, clarify, resolve, and initiate solutions to protection and control problems through analysis of interruption reports and fault recorder records.
Contribute to development of system-wide protection standards for transmission and distribution station protection, metering and control applications.
Participate in project scheduling, resource planning, and cost control for assigned projects.
Technical Expertise: Possesses intermediate level knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the application of theory and analytical techniques to solve diverse problems and complete extensive analysis. Demonstrates competency in analytical techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step). Exhibits ability to understand interrelationship between systems and component equipment. Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.
Leadership & Guidance: Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities. Performs routine engineering activity with minimum direction from higher-level employees. Follows policies, practices, standards and rules of the company and those regulations and procedures required by external agencies. Provides training and guidance to lower-level employees.
Planning & Organization Ability: Coordinates the development of input necessary to forecast costs for the routine projects, improvements requisitions, etc. Uses scheduling techniques (CPM, PERT, flow charts, etc.) for budget and planning activities. Initiates corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
Problem Solving & Initiative: Resolves and initiates solutions to routine problems which usually require additional definition/clarification before analysis can begin. Demonstrates ability to identify problems that are beyond the normal routine. Demonstrates ability and desire to seek out opportunities and embrace new ideas and approaches.
Communication: Develops, reviews, or presents technical reports such as improvement requisitions, studies, and analyses in as clear, concise and effective fashion.

Engineer (Grade 06) - BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Has typically acquired two (2) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET; Individuals with a Master's degree in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.
Engineer (Grade 07) - BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Has typically acquired four (4) or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET; or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master’s degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET; Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.

Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.
