Job Description - Network & Telephony Services III, IT Network Engineer, & Sr IT Network Engineer

Position Description

Responsible for the architecture, design, engineering, planning, testing, implementation, and administration of the Information Technology (IT) network systems and enterprise collaboration systems at UNS. This staff member facilitates work in a team environment that provides cost-effective IT network, collaboration and IT infrastructure and security software services to the various TEP and UNS business units. Team members in this classification will work closely with other areas within IT Operations to insure optimum reliability and cohesiveness.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Engineer, architect, recommend, implement, and support IT networks for critical utility operational systems, including Energy Management System, Physical Security, remote metering, Contact Center, and Corporate Collaboration systems. Provide IT network and collaboration support for generation and substations networks.

  • Architect, engineer, recommend, implement, and support IT systems and collaboration technologies for UNS corporate network. See Appendix A for Specific Technologies.

  • Architect, recommend, design, implement, and support IT infrastructure and mobile infrastructure application technologies for UNS corporate network and critical operational networks, including Energy Management System, Physical Security, Generation and Engineering/Substations networks. See Appendix A for specific technologies.

  • Develop processes and tools to support implementation, maintenance, security, and production scripting and programming of IT networks and collaboration systems.

  • Engineer, implement, and maintain IT networks and collaboration solutions, and IT infrastructure and security software solutions, for UNS and its subsidiaries with an emphasis on integration between companies and flexible solutions that are cost-effective and scalable.

  • Documents physical and logical maps of the IT systems and storage infrastructure as well as defines and follows standards and procedures in relation to the IT systems and storage infrastructure, their constituent devices and network and software interfaces.

  • Ensures that security on the network and collaboration systems meets IT Security standards, network best practices and compliance standards.

  • Works with relevant regulatory controls including NERC CIP and Sarbanes-Oxley on related IT networks and security platforms. Remediates compliance issues based on periodic vulnerability assessment and internal audit reports.

  • Ensures change control processes are followed and service levels affected by those changes are maintained.

  • Leads or participates in IT projects as needed to provide network or telephony expertise, guidance, or training.

  • Measures performance of IT network, security, and collaboration platforms. , and IT infrastructure and security software, and takes appropriate actions to ensure that performance meets client needs and applicable service level agreements.

  • Works with internal and external project managers and clients as necessary to develop technical requirements for business solutions. Work with vendors to prepare capital and expense budget estimates based on an initial design.

  • Works with IT Value-Added Resellers (VARs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to procure and maintain network, collaboration, and security hardware and software.

  • Manages network backup and restoration services for corporate and industrial control networks, including developing and testing disaster recovery plans, processes and procedures.

  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

(Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Level III

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires the qualifications for a Network & Telephony Administrator II plus team leadership abilities.

  • Requires industry certifications (e.g. CCNA, CCNP, CCVP) or equivalent experience of five or more years in a network and telephony discipline highlighting knowledge of Cisco switching, routing, wireless, and WAN technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in creating budgets for projects and maintains accountability for the actual dollars charged to that budget.

  • One or more years of experience administering Cisco IP Telephony and Unified Messaging is preferred.

IT Network Engineer

  • Assist higher level engineers with support tasks. Serves as Subject Matter Expert for multiples technologies. Manages projects and efforts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills are required plus a willingness to learn in a rapidly changing environment. Assists more experienced engineers on projects and deals with day to day support.

  • Experience leading IT systems engineering projects with emphasis on project management methodologies.

  • Experience in completing projects and providing strategic direction on how the IT Network infrastructure should evolve.

  • The candidate must be well versed in BGP, OSPF, EIGRP routing protocols, Cisco QoS, Multicast, data center technology to include Nexus OS on 5K/2K, Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure using 9K’s and controllers, and all layer 2 network technologies.

  • Requires Industry certifications CCNP or CCIE route switch certifications or CCIE Collaboration or CCNP Collaboration and equivalent experience of 3-5 years of IT Network Engineering.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.

  • Previous experience in managing and maintaining Cisco ASA firewalls, Cisco Identity Services Engine,

  • Demonstrated skills in project management by showing the plan for a successfully completed project plan.

  • Experience in creating budgets for projects including a detailed bill of materials, labor estimates, and predicted expenditure by milestone.

  • One or more years IT network engineering experience in a large (500+ client) enterprise or industrial control environment.

IT Network Engineer Senior

  • Assist lower level engineers with support tasks. Serves as Subject Matter Expert for multiples technologies. Manages projects and efforts. Capable of performinghigh level strategy and planning of enterprise network solutions. LAN/WAN network infrastructure including routing, switching, wireless, network security, and VoIP

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills are required plus a willingness to learn in a rapidly changing environment. Assists supervisor on projects and deals with day to day support.

  • Experience leading IT network engineering projects with emphasis on project management methodologies.

  • Ability to document Network Engineering designs in Microsoft Visio using advance techniques that make the documentation readable

  • Experience in creating meaningful budgets for projects and understands accountability for the actual dollars charged to that budget.

  • Experience in providing strategic direction on how the IT Network and Collaboration Infrastructure is engineered to meet business needs.

  • Two or more years of IT Network engineering experience in a large (500+ clients) enterprise or industrial control environment.

  • Meets all minimum qualifications for IT Network Engineer.

  • Requires CCNP Route Switch or Collaboration or CCIE in Collaboration or Route Switch plus three to five years’ experience as an IT Systems Engineer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.

  • Experience with engineering solutions in support of corporate disaster recovery and business continuity.

  • Five or more years IT systems engineering experience in a large (500+ clients) enterprise or industrial control environment.

  • Proven project management skills.

Pay Rate: $51,955 /yr+ Depending on Experience
