Job Description - IT Infrastructure and Security Architect

Do you have the vision to design and implement complex infrastructure systems combining your technical experience with IT networks, servers, and systems and your skills in collaboration, communication, and facilitation? If so, this may be the career for you!

What you will do:

  • Analyze the current business and IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.

  • Apply your technical knowledge to develop infrastructure architectures and ensure successful project delivery.

  • Understand and assimilate knowledge from multiple technical teams.

  • Serve as the intermediary and point of contact on IT infrastructure projects.

  • Develop and maintain documentation for regulatory and compliance purposes.

What you bring:

  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in designing and implementing three or more technology disciplines.

  • Disciplines: IP Networking, Remote Connectivity, Servers, Storage, Telephony Systems, Software Infrastructure (e.g. DNS, Active Directory, etc.), Network Security, Host Security, Identity Security, Cloud Platforms, Cloud Security, and Security Operations.

  • Experience with creating and maintaining technical and business documentation for design projects and processes.

  • Ability to work across functional departments and collaborate to design the best solutions for the company's strategic goals.

Position Description

Architect is responsible for the overall cohesion of engineering during design and implementation of IT and security hardware and software infrastructure. This role coordinates, advises, and confirms adherence to existing standards and creates and drafts new multi-disciplinary architectural standards.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and evolution of the architecture function.

  • Develop and maintain top-of-mind understanding of the current systems, storage, network, application, software infrastructure, and security infrastructure (Disciplines) as well as the operation thereof.

  • Hold authority to halt work on any workgroup activity to assure compliance with architectural standards.

  • Understand, advocate, and support the enterprise's business and IT strategies through the creation and coordination of architectural standards across Disciplines, including the creation of reference documents, and in compliance with approved security standards

  • Champion and assure adherence to workgroup design principles such as simplicity, sustainability, service-orientation, and security.

  • Participate in visioning sessions, design sessions, and select projects as key stakeholder and resource.

  • Analyze the current business and IT environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommend solutions for improvement.

  • Analyze industry, technology and market trends to determine their potential impacts on the company’s strategy and architecture requirements by making recommendations on technology selection.

  • Develop and hold understanding of Operational Technology (e.g. SCADA, DCS) implications of IT and security infrastructure and help develop comprehensive standards to assure generation and energy delivery reliability and project efficiency

  • Develop and hold understanding of Cloud Technology (e.g. Interface Architectures, Security Architectures, Platforms, etc.) and help develop comprehensive standards to assure secure and efficient cloud delivery

  • Lead and facilitate meetings between Information Services personnel related to infrastructure architecture.

  • Lead and facilitate meetings between OT and IT workgroups related to infrastructure architecture.

  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with OT business areas, e.g. Engineering and Generation.

  • Participate the on-going evolution of the IT Strategic Road Map and be accountable for coordinating activities within the roadmap.

  • Coordinate with business areas and Project Managers directly to provide efficiency as a single point-of contact. Architect brings other individual resources into conversations and decisions as needed.

  • Obtain and/or hold certifications in Systems, Network, and Security Disciplines with one being a professional/advanced level.

  • Develop audit-friendly documentation as required for regulatory or compliance purposes.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Disciplines: IP Networking, Remote Connectivity, Servers, Storage, Telephony Systems, Software Infrastructure (e.g. DNS, Active Directory, etc.), Network Security, Host Security, Identity Security, Cloud Platforms, Cloud Security, and Security Operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to make organizational decisions having far-reaching implications across the IT organization that are based on a high level of technical complexity.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently develop reference architectures that can meet internal and external standards and regulations

  • 5+ years hands-on experience designing and implementing three or more technology Disciplines

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including business writing and technical documentation.

  • Working knowledge of multiple Disciplines with demonstrated ability to develop architectures across Disciplines and speak authoritatively to those Disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline. MS or higher is desirable.

  • Industry certifications in one or more Disciplines

  • Operational Technology Experience

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing one or more technology Disciplines

  • Project Management Institute certification
