We are currently seeking a talented individual for the position of EMS Engineer. The successful candidate will design, modify and maintains software, hardware and related equipment associated with the Energy Management System (EMS), including the economic dispatch/automatic generation control computer system, the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) computer system, network applications/security assessment systems and the energy accounting computer system.

Position Description:

  • Designs, modifies and maintains software, hardware and related equipment associated with Energy Management System (EMS) applications for real-time operations, including economic dispatch, automatic generation control, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA), network & security assessments, energy accounting, associated database and historian processes, data streams, and web tools.

Position-Related Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and modifies interrelated, real-time, multi-machine software associated with the power control system. Provides accurate and complete documentation of modified software.
  • Designs and develops systems for maximum efficiency.
  • Recommends and coordinates hardware equipment selection, replacement installation and repair, in accordance with operational requirements and system configuration specifications.
  • Identifies viable alternatives to resolve problems and works to minimize equipment incompatibility.
  • Assures that new or modified systems and programs are consistent with operating requirements and compatible with other interfacing systems.
  • Reviews proposed additions or modifications to ensure compatibility and continued system integrity.
  • Trains and assists new personnel in the EMS group. Serves as technical resource, as appropriate, to acquaint new employees with the EMS.
  • Serves as a technical resource, as appropriate, to acquaint new employees with the EMS.
  • Coordinates and assists in maintenance and modification of the remote terminal unit data base, applications data base and the display files.
  • Ensures system integrity by monitoring the performance of all involved parties; proactively anticipates the need for system enhancements; shares technical information to meet internal customer needs.
  • Coordinates with external sources, the implementation and maintenance of new or existing programs, as appropriate.

EMS Engineer I/II

  • Develops, troubleshoots, supports, and maintains EMS applications to support business processes
  • Meets EMS stringent uptime requirements (24X7) with after-hours availability and on-call rotation participation
  • Creates queries and reporting tools used in operational analysis of EMS information by various clients
  • Applies application changes using proper code control in a development/test/production environment management
  • Plays key role in testing application patches, modifications and upgrades. Identifies and executes test cases and captures/compiles results
  • Communicates effectively, has strong organizational skills and strong problem solving skills
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by management

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines.
  • 0-5 years’ professional experience
  • Basic understanding of electrical and power systems fundamentals
  • Basic knowledge of computer programming. C programming, SQL, scripting. Linux/Windows operating systems
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel, as required, and support the 24x7 real-time control & monitoring systems and business clients.

EMS Engineer III

  • Possesses comprehensive knowledge of EMS applications and business processes and how they interface to other enterprise systems and processes
  • Performs application configuration and maintenance tasks required to adjust the application to best serve the needs of the client community
  • Analyzes and recommends resolution of system problems, helps determine a course of action, and implements approved approach
  • Identifies and defines opportunities and strategies to use information technology to simplify, integrate, and otherwise improve the organization’s business and workflow processes

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience
  • Ability to analyze power systems, real-time control systems, network modeling
  • Ability to work on complex projects and provide viable solutions.
  • Computer hardware and software systems experience
  • Basic knowledge of computer programming. C programming, SQL, scripting. Linux/Windows operating systems
  • Excellent organization, interpersonal and leadership skills.

EMS Engineer IV

  • Performs requirements analysis, software specifications and review of vendor’s design documents as needed
  • Improves application proficiency in EMS systems and supporting technologies, as well as business processes and connected enterprise applications interfaced to meet those processes
  • Utilizes project management techniques to develop project plans and track progress to optimize project resources. Coordinates project priorities with team members, team leaders and other Department groups and communicates with internal and external customers
  • Recognized as a technology expert and serves as a resource for solving complex problems
  • Assists in developing project plan resource scheduling, tasking and budgets

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 8-10 years’ professional experience
  • Ability to lead most complex of projects and provide viable solutions.
  • Identified as technology expert and serves as resource for solving complex problems
