The Fleet Manager at Portland General Electric will have oversight of the fleet program and related practices, standards and policies.
Manages a team of supervisory and/or professional staff responsible for fleet management; provides technical management for the team, ensuring that objectives are met and all relevant standards/procedures are followed; ensures that operational problems are identified and resolved; ensures that operational procedures and working practices are current and fit for the purpose.
Develops strategy for overall teams and functions; collaborates with other departments to develop, prioritize and implement cross-functional initiatives; oversees scorecard and performance standard development; oversees development of plans to facilitate employee engagement.
May investigate or oversee investigations on employee and/or safety issues and recommend or implement remedial actions; represents garage at meetings; serves as companywide expert on complex field issues; leads efforts with internal partners and/or collective bargaining unit to resolve issues or implement improvements; manages or oversees projects and initiatives.
May oversee vendor relationships, including selecting vendors, establishing metrics and service level agreements, monitoring vendor performance and working with vendors to resolve issues.
Monitors and manages expenditures, ensuring that all financial targets are met, and examines any areas where budgets/expenditures vary from plan; assists with the definition and operation of effective financial controls and decision making.
Oversees resourcing decisions and planning for team; partners with HR in the definition of jobs, recruitment, evaluation and selection processes.
Reviews organizational development needs and training strategies to determine required learning and development outcomes for the team; provides guidance in the creation of development plans; monitors ongoing progress and provides coaching and mentoring and provides feedback; completes annual performance management reviews.
Requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, business or other related field or equivalent experience.
Prefer eight or more years of utility operations experience including at least one year of formal or informal leadership and one year in fleet or closely related field. Experience in maintenance or mechanics a plus.
