Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Manager of Procurement Services, this position shall be responsible for the procurement of designated materials, supplies and equipment for Generation operations to meet purchasing demands.
The buyer position will coordinate with inventory management and use materials management and inventory control principles and techniques to maintain accurate inventory levels.
This position will participate in negotiations with prospective suppliers, as well as work with field personnel and vendors to resolve procurement and invoicing issues.
This position is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Essential Job Functions:
•Coordinate the material management strategies and activities as set forth by the Manager of Procurement Services
•Monitor replenishment activities for material purchases at the Generation operations
•Review spot-buy requisitions and send request for quotes to appropriate vendor(s)/manufacturer(s)
•Evaluate supplier information and analyze quotes to determine best total value
•Resolve blocked invoices because of pricing errors
•Assist storerooms in expediting materials for projects and/or general usage
•Contribute to the achievement of Procurement Services and Supply Chain goals and initiatives as identified
•Demonstrate and promote ethical behavior in dealing with external and internal business situations
•Assist in providing buyer coverage at other Generation locations as needed
•Assist with the supervision of storeroom attendants as needed.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Prefers a Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field. Requires at least three years industry related experience.
Related experience could include several Supply Chain areas procurement, contract negotiations, logistics, material management, inventory and/or warehousing.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:
•Demonstrated competency in strategic thinking with strong abilities in relationship management.
•Requires the ability and skills to negotiate with distributors and manufactures on procurement issues.
•Knowledge of materials and supplies used in generation, electric distribution, transmission, substation and corporate operations as well as management best practices in inventory control and warehousing is preferred.
•Requires effective communication skills, ability to handle multiple priorities, operate within short time frames, and process information in an organized, timely, and accurate manner.
•Possess the ability to work closely and professionally with other departments, business associates, and outside suppliers and/or contractors in a team environment.
•Possess an understanding of personal computers and the various databases, spreadsheets, and reporting capabilities that are available to perform their functions.
•Skills in public speaking, business writing, technical reading, handling conflicts, and decision-making are required. Familiarity with Synergen, PeopleSoft, and Microsoft Office is preferred.
Licenses, Certification, Bonding and/or Testing Required:
Valid Driver’s License, Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) is preferred.
Conditions include office and field environments. Occasional travel to other locations within the company and overnight travel may be required.
Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload and project deadlines.
Must have excellent work record, including good attendance.
