JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE:

Responsible for leading the innovative development of Grid Technology business solutions, with primary focus around GIS based solutions implemented through IT, to enable the business to meet its objectives. The role requires an in-depth understanding of available IT technologies including ESRI and GE Smallworld systems, field and work management applications, the business unit's operations, its operating model, capability needs, and business challenges. The role, together with support from Entergy's Enterprise Architect (EA) function is responsible for creating a fully integrated, effective business solution. The role is an active thought leader and application visionary who shapes the technology demand among the business unit.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively craft and propose solutions that clarify how GIS brings business value to address critical business challenges faced by customers

  • Advance how GIS technologies integrates/interfaces with Entergy’s vision and translate system requirements into software architecture and design specifications

  • Provide overall design guidelines for software and hardware integration, performance, reliability, operating, and security designs. Support business units in the creation of project business cases (e.g., success criteria).

  • Capture business capability requirements, functional requirements, and expected service levels from business unit and stated EA solutions to create an actionable Business-IT roadmap (a long range plan for the business that identifies specific IT investments in applications and infrastructure to support business objectives).

  • Support BU leadership in identifying opportunities for emerging technologies, through collaboration with the EA function, to enable business strategies. Provide an advisory role with the client on the impact of new technologies on their existing technical and information system environment.

  • Work with business and IT teams to review test strategies and requirements traceability. Ensure business and functional requirements are maintained throughout the development/configuration process (requirements traceability matrix). Review and analyze user acceptance testing results to validate the functions of the delivered solution.

  • Maintain strong understanding of technology needs and solutions for the business unit. Regularly visit business units to assess satisfaction and identify follow-up education opportunities. Consider alternate delivery models for meeting business needs.

  • Liaise between the client, vendors, project management and the technical team on questions, issues, and revisions to the solution architecture.

  • Provide support for storms and be available 24x7 to oversee storm applications during weather events

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred.

Minimum experience required of the position

Solution Architect: 5+ years of experience architecting, implementing, and administrating enterprise IT-GIS solutions/systems

Solution Architect Sr: 10+ years of experience architecting, implementing, and administrating enterprise IT-GIS solutions/systems

  • Preferred: Five or more years of hands-on experience with Esri software including ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Runtime, and their associated APIs or interfaces.

  • Preferred: Experience with GE Smallworld for the purpose of shared/synchronized resources across GIS platforms.

  • Experience in platform architecture, solution design, project envisioning, planning, developing, deployment, security, identity management frameworks, cloud, and scalability

  • Experience with Oracle; Microsoft SQL, PL/SQL; and/or other RDBMS and Windows, Linux, and/or other server environments

  • Programming and scripting experience with Python, JavaScript, and/or HTML5 (modern web frameworks)

  • Knowledge of geospatial and mapping concepts such as spatial analysis, map projections, etc.

  • Experience with current technology implementation patterns including service-oriented architectures and cloud hybrid configurations

  • Professional excellence in technical consulting, solution design, project envisioning, planning, developing, and deployment

  • Strong, persuasive communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to clearly communicate technical ideas--both verbally and in written form--whether to customers, executives, or other technical or non-technical peers

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Deep understanding and practical experience of industry application solutions.

Wide experience in developing customer-centric solutions.

Working knowledge in all areas of technology (infrastructure, commercial applications, software development, end-user platforms, IT operations).

Planning experience, especially the design of longer term strategies.

Ability to communicate and present effectively with all levels in the organization, including executive management. Excellent interpersonal communications skills.

Excellent writing and presentation skills.

Working knowledge of architecture concepts and the ability to integrate business needs and technology capabilities.

Knowledge of integration of other enterprise systems (e.g., ERP, EAM, CRM, SCM)

Any certificates, licenses, etc. required for the position

Certification for AWS Certified Solution Architect or MCSE Cloud Platform and Infrastructure or equivalent are a plus

Esri Enterprise System Design Certification is a plus
