Senior Engineer, Measurement & Verification

The Senior Engineer will be responsible for all items included in the Engineer II description. Additionally, the Senior Engineer will direct junior engineers, who will assist, in the development of investment grade audits and measurement and verification reports. The Senior Engineer will be responsible for the quality control review of measurement and verification plans and reports. The Senior Engineer will present the reports to the client for their review and acceptance.

  1. Identify the M&V option and criteria for energy efficiency and capital improvement opportunities. This will involve attending selected customer meetings, conducting site trips to collect facility and utility data; and overviewing energy screening models to determine the best M&V approach and measurement options supporting the economic viability of the projects. All activities shall align with risk managed practices to the company. Screening models include bin analyses, hourly building simulation computer models, spreadsheet development / analysis, commercially available analysis, and utility tracking programs.

  2. Generate M&V option tables and other activities to be conducted prior to construction, post construction, and on-going annual activities along with detailed testing requirements. Develop the anticipated implementation costs, services, and schedules meeting M&V requirements and deadlines.

  3. Support the deployment of energy monitoring systems into customers facilities and oversee the metering of critical parameters using metering software or self-developed spreadsheet analytics.

  4. Conduct site visits to collect data from project sites during the construction period and M&V period interacting with customers to obtain access and information as identified in the M&V plan and furnish information for the installed equipment and systems. Monitor the progress and verify data from outside contractors providing M&V support services for the company.

  5. Develop the post installation report meeting the deliverable contract deadlines including the proposed savings and expected savings for the first year. For subsequent years, develop/update M&V reports including applicable descriptions of M&V activities, site observations, measurements, data collection, trend analysis, and other applicable activities providing accurate calculated savings updates.

  6. Support M&V related proposal documents including – M&V plan, ECM M&V proposed options, M&V activities, M&V costs, and measurement / testing requirement details.

  7. Support the presentation the M&V plan as well as all M&V reports to internal and external customers.

  8. Provide assistance to Project Management Group to support implementation of projects, as required.

ENGINEER II

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS:

• Undergraduate engineering (BS) degree required.

• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.

• LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) preferred.

• Certified Energy Manager (CEM) preferred.

• Certified Measurement & Verification Professional (CMVP) preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• 5 plus years of experience in energy conservation and associated building system retrofits.

• 5 plus years of experience with performance contracting.

• 5 plus years of experience of engineering experience including metering, M&V and/or instrumentation and control.

• Familiarity with LEED and green building design.

JOB SKILLS:

• Able to interact effectively across multiple disciplines to achieve goals and meet deadlines.

• Must have good analytical and computer skills and attention to detail.

• Strong leadership, verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

• Engineering, analytical and technical writing skills, including word processing and spreadsheet analyses.

• Building energy use modeling and simulation experience desirable (e.g. eQUEST, HAP, DOE2, Trane Trace, ASHRAE Modified Bin Analysis).

• Design experience with HVAC and other building systems desirable.

• Good knowledge of measurement and verification standards to include: FEMP, IPMVP, ASHRAE Guideline 14, DOE Uniform Methods Project.

• Measurement and verification skills including installation of instrumentation for short-term data logging of power and environmental parameters.

• Proven skills on M&V protocols. General experience with the Federal ESPC, State and Local Performance Contracting, and/or Demand Side Management programs preferred.

• Application of complex utility rate information (tier structures, TOU rates, demand ratchets, etc.)

• Ability to understand utility rebate programs offered for electrical, gas, and water efficiency projects desirable.

• Proficiency in generating drawings with AutoCAD or Revit preferred.

TRAVEL:

• Able to travel to project sites (up to 20% of time) in order to verify existing conditions and review contractor’s work for compliance with measurement and verification plan.
