POSITION CONCEPT:

Reporting to the Director of Communications & Marketing, the Manager, Internal Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of an internal communication strategy focused on employees that helps ensure the successful implementation of the employee experience, business strategy, goals and initiatives of Tampa Electric, as well as the employee experience and strategies and goals for Peoples Gas.

The Manager will lead a team of internal communication professionals with a focus on understanding audiences, delivering messaging, optimizing channels and driving engagement. The Manager partners with leaders throughout Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas to create robust communication plans, provide sage insight on trends in communication and provide expert analysis on the effectiveness of the employee communications.

A successful Manager will be a strategic thinker with superior leadership and project management skills. They will have a deep knowledge of strategic communications with experience in leading transformational communication initiatives. They will have a natural curiosity for all things related to creating and delivering exceptional communications that support a positive employee experience and promote brand advocacy.They will have a passion for inspiring, creating and telling memorable stories, exceptional verbal and written communication skills and be results oriented. They will take initiative with minimal supervision in a highly collaborative environment and have the ability to effectively work under tight deadlines and manage projects independently. Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail are important to the role.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage communications planning and deployment for the assigned business areas, creating communication strategies and using the best possible channels to keep employees informed and engaged, and translate business need into employee action

  • Partner with the Channel Management manager, Director of Communications and Marketing and Director of Customer Experience Strategy to provide internal communications counsel and support, to include the development and execution of communications plans related to employee advocacy

  • Be a strategic and trusted communications consultant to leadership teams, providing communications guidance on complex, sensitive and business critical priorities, to enable an aligned and inclusive culture through a transparent and contemporized communications approach, as well as provide counsel on when, and critically when not, to communicate

  • Collaborate with Manager of Brand Strategy and broader Communications and Marketing team to ensure messaging and communications tools and materials are aligned

  • Lead and support, as appropriate, the development and implementation of companywide internal communication activities aligned to our business strategy and culture

  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Director to resource priority projects and reprioritize if, and as, new demands arise; this will require this role to flex as appropriate to support and contribute to other areas within the scope of Internal Communications

  • Develop meaningful and actionable metrics to measure reach and effectiveness of communications

EDUCATION, (LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS):

Required:Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications/public relations, or related field from an accredited university

Preferred:Masters degree from an accredited university

Licenses/Certifications

Preferred:Accreditation in Public Relations from Public Relations Society of America

EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • Minimum of 6 years progressive experience

  • A communications role with a regulated utility or in a government, corporate or media environment

  • Three (3) years’ experience in a management position, with direct reports

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required:

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive communications plan, media relations, digital marketing & communication, brand strategy, advertising and employee communications to advance an organization's mission and goals

  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output

  • Demonstrated skill, experience and comfort in media relations

  • Extensive writing and editing experience with a variety of print and online communications media

  • The ability to form effective, consultative working relationships with colleagues at all levels and external stakeholders

  • Experience in mentoring and coaching a team of communications professionals.

  • Energetic, self-reliant, good problem solverandresults oriented

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior management

  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting deadlines, exceptional prioritization and organizational skills

  • Available for on-call and after hours work on projects and issues management
