Position Description
The City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities are seeking highly motivated people devoted to public service to join our team as a Vehicle and Equipment Shop Attendant.

The Vehicle and Equipment Shop Attendant is responsible for providing basic maintenance and repair services to the city's diverse fleet of equipment and vehicles. The position supports Heavy Equipment Mechanics by assisting in larger repairs and by identifying potential issues during preventative maintenance inspections.
Work may be performed on a fleet consisting of approximately 1,500 vehicles of various types such as: medium to heavy duty flat beds, and dump trucks, semi tractors and trailers, motor homes up to and including Class A, landscape equipment, road maintenance/repair equipment (including track driven equipment), road demolition equipment, snow removal equipment, railroad maintenance equipment , waste processing equipment, storm, sewer & sanitary repair/cleaning equipment, street signal installation/repair equipment, man lifts, road making equipment, pursuit rated law enforcement vehicles, motorcycles, undercover and special operations vehicles, passenger cars and light trucks, fire suppression and firefighting pumps (airport and railroad yard), armored vehicle and bomb disposal trailers, refuse and recycle collection equipment, single and twin engine harbor patrol and pursuit boats with firefighting capabilities, harbor patrol personal watercraft, power generation equipment, mobile and stationary cranes, etc.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Outdoor and indoor environments; subject to noise and fumes from equipment operation and adverse weather conditions. Position requires heavy lifting, climbing, hoisting, pulling and operation of a variety of vehicles and equipment.
Qualifications
Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.)
AND
An equivalent combination to: two years' experience relating to the servicing of automotive equipment
OR
Graduation from a related vocational program.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Washington Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with required endorsements within nine (9) months of appointment into the classification with maintenance thereafter.
Possession of a mechanics tool kit in satisfactory condition at time of appointment, which includes a variety of impact, shallow, deep and specialty socket wrenches ranging from 1/4” – ½” drive size, ratchets and extensions ranging from 1/4 “ – ½” drive size, pliers, screw drivers and other hand tools.
Knowledge & Skills

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.
