Position Description

Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) Utilities Technology Services Department is hiring for a Security & Audio/Video (A/V) Communication Engineer (Classification: Telecommunications Engineer, Senior).

In this pivotal role, the Security & A/V Communication Engineer will collaborate closely with Tacoma Public Utilities’ business units to gather business requirements, facilitate engineering efforts, and oversee the seamless execution of larger-scale projects aimed at supporting physical security and A/V systems.

Responsibilities encompass providing engineering expertise to aid technicians in resolving issues pertaining to data networks and telecommunication systems. Additionally, there will be opportunities to support fellow Network and Communication Systems (NCS) Engineers across various communications technology domains and ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards.

Furthermore, the incumbent may assume Subject Matter Expert (SME) roles integral to NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) initiatives, particularly those are relative to the physical security systems encompassed within the scope of the CIP program.

Essential Duties:

  • Primary point of contact as NC Engineer for design and coordinating implementation of telecommunications infrastructure in support of TPU’s physical security and A/V systems.

  • Attend planning meetings and provide the necessary telecommunication requirements gathering and engineer support to TPU’s physical security and A/V systems.

  • Develop training, testing, and preventive maintenance plans for NCS staff in the deployment and support of TPU’s physical security systems, A/V and associated infrastructure.

  • Work collaboratively with other NCS Engineers and ensure physical security systems and A/V adheres to established network design standards.

  • Work collaboratively with UTS Service Desk & Desktop Support, UTS SMO and Facilities to develop and implement standards for A/V deployments at TPU Facilities.

  • Where assigned, act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NERC CIP Requirements applicable to physical security systems.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*

Bachelor's degree in telecommunications engineering or directly related field

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Minimum Experience*

4 years of progressively responsible work designing and installing telecommunications infrastructure

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

North American Electric Reliability Corporation Critical Infrastructure Protection (NERC-CIP)

Some assignments may require a Washington State Driver's license
