The RTET seeks out real-time market opportunities and creates innovative transactions that maximize the economic benefits from hourly market fluctuations. Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluate system surplus or deficit situations and implement transactions in real-time to maintain load/ generation/ interchange balance.

  • Perform market surveys to determine active participants, trends and opportunities.

  • Actively market, negotiate and execute physical trades of power and ancillary products - including price, quantity, product, transmission paths - in the hourly and sub-hourly markets in conformance with Tacoma Power’s trading guidelines and Energy Risk Management policies.

  • Perform economic analysis to determine the optimum real-time scheduling of Tacoma's owned and contracted generation resources in conjunction with Tacoma’s power supply portfolio to maximize the value of our resource portfolio.

  • Work with System Power Dispatchers in efficiently scheduling Tacoma’s generating resources within all appropriate constraints, including economic, hydrological, fisheries, reserves, and regulatory requirements.

  • Schedule and document power sales and purchases and/or ancillary products with marketplace participants.

  • Acquire necessary transmission reservations from transmission path operators or owners using the Open Access Same-Time Information System (OASIS), or equivalent.

  • Respond, mitigate or resolve various unpredictable situations and issues that occur in the real-time environment including but not limited to:

  • Loss of generation

  • Loss of load

  • Energy Imbalance Market bidding and market participation tests

  • Inter-hour and forward hour schedule cuts

  • Transmission path de-rates

  • E-tag changes or issues

  • NWPP and BPA Self-Supply Reserve events

  • Balancing Authority interchange imbalances

  • Loss of SCADA, ETRM and EIM systems, internet, or power to computers

  • Collaborate in a team environment to plan the efficient operation of the power supply system.

  • Establish and sustain excellent business relationships with marketplace participants.

  • Perform detailed work with a high degree of accuracy while under pressure and with limited supervision.

  • Take initiative to solve problems.
