City of Tacoma WA Planning & Maintenance Manager in Tacoma, Washington

Position Description Tacoma Water is seeking a strategic thinker to join the Maintenance and Construction team as the Planning & Maintenance Manager. In this role you will implement and manage the Maintenance and Construction planning program. The Planning & Maintenance Manager hires, plans, assigns, supervises and coordinates work assignments, and evaluates the work of the Tacoma Water Maintenance and Construction team. The Planning & Maintenance Manager supports the management of the Maintenance and Construction budget for both Field Operations and Logistics. This includes both the Operation & Maintenance budget, Capital budget and Fleet Capital budget in the current biennium. This role reports directly to the Maintenance and Construction Division Manager and collaborates with senior management within Tacoma Water on developing and implementing Maintenance and Construction management best practices. In this role, you will work closely with both internal and external to the City partners to collaborate work into a backlog for Maintenance and Construction Field Operations. As the Planning & Maintenance Manager, you will participate in developing Tacoma Water's long-range business and financial plan including determining timing of major capital expenditures and other programs which have rate impacts. This position will manage a group of 15-20 FTEs and the resources responsible for implementing best practices within our Computerized Maintenance Management Software (SAP) for managing Tacoma Water's extensive portfolio of assets used to operate the water system. Responsibilities include: * Collaborate and coordinate with other sections for complex organization program development and implementation * Develop, coordinate, and communicate organizational development activities, both internally and externally, to continually improve the use of SAP for managing work performed on the water system * Compile and analyze statistical and technical information and data * Lead and support strategic initiatives set by the division * Support labor contract negotiation and collective bargaining agreement interpretation * Supervise various personnel functions including: hiring, recruitment, employee review management, performance plans, grievances/discipline, recognition, FMLA, PDFs, organizational development and research and development projects * Oversee and direct projects related to Warehouse management and purchasing for the division * Prepare and maintain personnel and work related records and reports to prepare annual division budget and monitor expenditures Qualifications An equivalent combination to: * * * 8+ years increasingly responsible experience in the utility industry OR Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, public administration or a related field AND * 4+ years of management/supervisory experience.
