City of Tacoma WA Meter Reading and Field Services Manager in Tacoma, Washington
Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) is searching for an experienced Meter Reading and Field Services Manager to provide leadership to 38+ staff in TPU Customer Services Field Operations groups (Field Investigation and Meter Reading) as our utility transitions to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), an integrated system of smart meters, communications networks and data management systems that enable two-way communication between utilities and customers.
As the Meter Reading and Field Services Manager, you will lead the Field Investigations and Meter Reading functions for the TPU service territory, assuring residential and commercial utility meters (power, water and sewer ) are read accurately and timely for billing operations. Manage and coordinate field investigation functions including research and site inquiry into reading discrepancies, consumption issues, switched meters and other issues as they arise. Assure customer reconnects and disconnects are performed, service territories and meter routes are appropriately staffed.
You will be a core resource of the AMI team and actively participate in the AMI operational transition, coordination and communication change management efforts, AMI transitional staffing requirements (hiring, optimization) staffing requirements and retention through AMI deployment, Meter installation vendor management., KPI development and reporting, assist with AMI process optimization including Opt-out and non-AMI meter reading strategy, and review, update and implement new safety procedures associated with AMI.
This position has an anticipated duration of 5 years.

- 5+ years of leadership experience in Meter Reading and Field Services including successfully transitioning a utilities field services organization to AMI;
- Bachelor's degree in business or public administration or related field (5 additional years of experience may substitute for the degree);
- Experience with meter reading management software;
- Experience with mobile workforce management software;
Experience with customer information systems Desired
