Position Description

Mail and Stock Processors perform a variety of duties to prepare and distribute interoffice and U.S. mail for City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities (TPU) departments. Mail and Stock Processors are expected to demonstrate teamwork and collaboration as well as work independently.

Mail and Stock Processors are critical to the success of the City of Tacoma and TPU in facilitating communication throughout the organization.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Sort, retrieve and deliver interoffice mail and incoming USPS Mail

  • Sort and meter outgoing USPS mail

  • Prepare Standard rate bulk mailings

  • Process mail on various pieces of mail equipment, including folders, inserters, tabbers, addressers, and openers

  • Drive scheduled runs between various City of Tacoma and TPU locations

  • Provide exceptional customer service and postal expertise

Qualifications

An equivalent combination to: graduation from high school and one year of related experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Washington State Drivers License at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Position requires extensive walking, lifting, bending and pushing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work includes indoor and outdoor environment; subject to driving City vehicle in adverse weather conditions.

Working non-standard hours may be required.

Mail center environment; subject to noise from machines.

Employees in this classification may be exposed to the danger of carrying large amounts of money and traffic hazards.

Individuals given a conditional offer of employment must also pass a pre-employment medical examination that may include a drug screen. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and Local 483. New employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.

Other Employment Information

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
