City of Tacoma WA Line Clearance Tree Trimmer in Tacoma, Washington

Position Description A Line Clearance Tree Trimmer performs skilled work in the safe, efficient trimming and removal of trees and vegetation that interfere with energized power lines, transmission towers and other electrical equipment. Additional duties include removing broken limbs, using climbing gear, operating from bucket trucks and using power and hand tools designed for tree trimming operations in close proximity to energized high-voltage power lines. The work is dangerous and often at extreme heights under potential unfavorable weather conditions. Work is normally performed under supervision; however, on occasion, employees may work on special assignments without supervision and may supervise skilled and unskilled workers of other classifications. Qualifications * Graduation from high school or equivalent * Possess a journey-level Line Clearance Tree Trimming or Line Electrician card AND * Two years in the last five years performing line clearance tree trimming duties at journey-level LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS * Valid Washington Commercial Driver's License, Class A by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter. * Valid First Aid and CPR training by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter. * Tree/Bucket rescue training by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter. * Possess a valid Washington State Traffic Control Flagging card by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter. * Forklift training by completion of probation with maintenance thereafter Knowledge & Skills * Current Washington State Safety Standards for Electrical Workers (296-45-WAC) * Properly use ropes to climb, hoist tools and control and lower removed treetops and branches * Tree/Bucket rescue techniques * Approved pruning methods, materials, tools and equipment used in line clearance tree trimming * Electrical overhead line construction and voltages * Occupational hazards and safety precautions required for line clearance tree trimming * Work safely * Climb trees with and without gaffs * Operate power and hand tools and other equipment used in line clearance tree trimming * Lift heavy objects in awkward and confined spaces, using proper lifting and rigging techniques * Understand and follow oral and written instructions * Communicate effectively both orally and in writing * Maintain harmonious work relationships * Drive and operate vehicles of different sizes Selection Process & Supplemental Information This recruitment is being managed by Alissa McLain, if you would like to be notified of similar opportunities or stay connected with things going on at Tacoma Public Utilities and the City of Tacoma, connect with me on LinkedIn! *City of Tacoma Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion*Tacoma's diversity is its greatest asset.
