Position Description

This posting is for an Information Technology Analyst, Senior Technical. The successful candidate will need to be able to work in a uniformed environment and follow Fire Department chain of command, protocols, and procedures on a daily basis.

This position will support the Tacoma Fire Department as it continues to evolve as a progressive and responsive public safety organization. This classification is assigned the responsibilities and duties of a technical advisor on complex, critical or large-scale systems and/or projects, consistently applying advanced principles and techniques, planning, developing, implementing, maintaining and administering complex or multifunctional applications and systems, some of which may be enterprise-wide. Positions in this classification will be assigned to coordinate projects. Work is applied to most complex processes, is intellectual in nature, and results in productive and efficient solutions. Work assignments require understanding the customer's business from the perspective of senior management and the ability to act as a liaison in consulting on and coordinating information technology needs across multiple business areas.

Work may require availability outside of normal working hours.

Qualifications

Equivalent combination to: Bachelor degree in computer science or related field and five or more years of directly related information technology work experience.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Some positions may require a valid Washington State Driver's License at time of appointment with maintenance thereafter. Knowledge & Skills

  • Skill in applying advanced technical knowledge to evaluate and resolve complex tasks such as planning and directing projects, conducting capacity planning, coordinating or facilitating the installation of complex systems, hardware, software, application interfaces or applications.

  • Expert knowledge in detecting, diagnosing and correcting the source of errors in logs.
  • Expert knowledge of data and system security and other similar technical processes approaches.
  • Skills in following directions under broad guidelines, and independently explore, and evaluate technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Skill in programming and the understanding of development and designing best practices.
  • Skills in communicating and representing enterprise-wide computing standards for both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Skill in understanding, following and giving oral and written directions effectively.
  • Employ expertise, credibility and effective partnering to help customers and vendors resolve complex and difficult issues.
  • Skill in maintaining appropriate technical documentation.
  • Skills in modeling effective group process behavior, such as listening, discussing, encouraging, and using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Expert skill in handling multiple competing priorities.
  • Work confidentially and with discretion, including maintaining HIPAA compliance when interacting with patient data of the department. Selection Process & Supplemental Information

Appointment is subject to passing a background check. This position is covered by a Labor Agreement between the City of Tacoma and the Local 120. Employees must successfully complete a nine-month probationary period prior to obtaining permanent status in this classification.
