Position Description

The Tacoma Fire Department is currently seeking a Fire Electrical Maintenance Supervisor. This position is responsible for planning, developing, constructing, installing and maintaining municipal fire alarm systems and primary alerting circuits as well as constructing fiber optic systems throughout the city. Additionally, they will test and inspect priority fire alarm systems; direct and supervise assigned employees; and maintain, install, and repair fire department electrical systems and other city electrical systems.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, construct, and install municipal fire alarm systems.

  • Supervise installation, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm circuits from the central fire communication building to fire stations, selective dispatch circuits, fire box circuits, radio communications circuits and air raid control lines.

  • Evaluate and determine equipment needs and requisition supplies.

  • Oversee and manage division budget. Prepare budget and cost estimates of new installations; maintain records of work performed and prepare reports.

  • Supervise and evaluate assigned employees including providing technical direction and guidance as well as performance management.

  • Act as liaison with a variety of other departments, organizations, or business to receive or provide a variety of technical information.

  • Operate a computer terminal and keyboard, electronic testing equipment, calculator, drafting equipment and other related electrical equipment.

Qualifications

An equivalent combination to: graduation from a high school or trade school, including or supplemented by training in electrical, electronic and mechanical work and three years' experience as a journey-level electrician in a field related to fire communication systems.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Washington State Electrician License (ELO1).

Valid Washington State Driver's License with CDL endorsement.

Completion of training course in Basic Fiber Optics.

Basic First Aid and CPR Certificate.

Work includes indoor and outdoor environment; subject to driving from site to site to conduct work.

  • Tools, materials, methods, and practices for assembling, servicing, repairing, and installing electric and fiber optics communication systems.

  • Principles and construction of telephone, telegraph, alarm, and signal systems.

  • Fire alarm systems requirements by the National Board of Fire Underwriters.
