Job Purpose
The Vulnerability Testing team is part of Vulnerability Management within the Security Team, and supports the Security Team’s global operations by identifying vulnerabilities and security issues via penetration testing assessments and identifying threats posing a genuine risk to National Grid via red team / purple team tests that replicate behaviours of threat actors, assessed by Government and commercial intelligence providers. This information will enable National Grid to proactively adjust its defensive posture.
Key Accountabilities
Engineering Team Leader
The Vulnerability Management Engineering Team Leader provides technical direction and advanced support for products used across the organization. They build, develop and lead the continuous improvement of engineering practises at National Grid, with a motivated and capable team of Security Engineers. They are also responsible for the quality of advice and guidance given to Technology teams.
This will include researching, engineering, implementing and operating enterprise security products. This will also involve managing and improving platform security compliance, through automation, monitoring and alerting, SIEM integration, development and implementation of standards, procedures, and guidelines covering different platforms and devices.
This is a matrix position and requires strong technical and leadership skills to work with geographically dispersed teams and guide work products through the systems engineering lifecycle, including accreditation, sustainment, and services.
A Team Leader in this role must define metrics to quickly and accurately present the team’s performance and variance against its goals. This individual will also be responsibility for the scheduling and prioritization of the functions Engineering backlog and all related performance management duties (direct reports).

Strong leadership, influencing and analytical skills, demonstrating sound judgement and decision making, and be able to credibly interact professionally at all levels across the organization.
Able to demonstrate a high degree of credibility and influence senior stakeholders within the organization and key external stakeholders.
Qualifications
The candidate must possess the following:
B.S. in Computer Science or Cyber Security from an accredited university
Experience writing software in a variety of languages (Go, Python, C, JavaScript)
A technical mindset with great attention to detail
Experience normalizing disparate data sources into a cohesive data set
Deep understanding of network protocols spanning all layers of the network stack and system internals (kernel and user space)
Experience designing, building, and parsing REST APIs
Willingness to investigate and explore new technologies
Experience with DevOps workflows and technologies
The ideal candidate also has:
Experience automating vulnerability discovery and identification
Extensive knowledge and experience with industry standard vulnerability scanners
Experience or knowledge of penetration testing and vulnerability assessment
Experience building Splunk applications
Experience designing, building, and maintaining infrastructure to support security operations
An active Github with contributions to open source security projects
