Gridtern Program Overview
Our Gridtern Program is a structured paid summer internship opportunity established to provide you with hands-on learning experience as well as exposure to various functions within our company as your introduction to the energy industry. Your summer will be filled with hands on projects and assignments, countless networking opportunities, field learning experiences and professional development.
Gridterns will start their summer on either May 23rd or June 6th 2022. Here at National Grid we believe what you achieve while working, is more important than where you do your work. Understanding that different moments call for different environments, we are taking the approach that the future of work is hybrid. Put simply, most of our teams follow a mixture of both home and office working. Specific department set ups do vary and will be identified later in the selection process.

Participating Departments Overview
Internship responsibilities will vary on department placement. With over 200 intern positions being offered for the summer, we don’t advertise them all individually; below are a handful of examples of 2022 participating departments to showcase the array of opportunities!
Customer & Community Engagement
The Customer and Community Engagement team in New York works with some of National Grid’s largest commercial, industrial, and municipal customers to resolve any issues they might have as well as manage any projects they have with our company. We really are our customer's "trusted advisor." The team also works within our community to provide grants to local non-profit partners and volunteer.
US Customer Change
Our Customer Change team is responsible for supporting and enabling the implementation of change initiatives across our National Grid locations. The team owns the design and implementation of various action-oriented interventions to help lead individuals, teams and National Grid’s organization through their change journeys as the company continues our evolution.
Account Maintenance Operations
The Account Maintenance Operations team is responsible for supporting our various contact centers and meter services departments. Support is provided for customer connects and disconnects to service, all meter change requests, customer billing, and much more.
The Revenue Assurance team is responsible for identifying, investigating and mitigating all possible lost revenue for the company due to any billing errors that might result from Theft of Service or End to End process failures. The team accomplishes their task by performing various End to End process reviews.
Customer Energy Management: Low- Moderate Income.
The Customer Energy team is responsible for the strategy, design and continuous improvement of customer programs and offerings, as well as partnerships focused on product growth for energy efficiency, demand response, and electrification of heat within our low- and moderate-income customer sector. The team supports the company’s goals of achieving regulatory targets, company Earnings Adjustment Mechanism (“EAM”) targets, and Climate goals within New York State.
Qualifications include (but not limited to):
Pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Communications, Data Analytics, Information Technology, Environmental Studies, Energy Policy or a related field
Applicant must have accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
Applicants for the Gridtern Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States
Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2022 Semester
Some intern positions will require a valid US Driver’s license. This qualification will be included in department specific Gridtern position(s) during the next step of the selection process
You’ll be hearing from us
National Grid’s Talent Acquisition Team shares qualified candidates’ applications with departments participating in the Gridtern program based on the interests you have noted in your resume and profile. If advanced to the next step in the selection process, you will be asked to submit your candidate profile to a specific department(s). At that time, you will receive more information on the department, role, specific location, working structure, and detailed responsibilities of the position(s).
