Job Purpose

Analyze data and activities to provide relevant and up to date HR information to support decision-making regarding and the effective working of National Grid. At the higher levels this role will also design and implement procedures and policies within their area of work to improve the working of National Grid. Manages HR information and records projects within given systems, integrating with wider systems and ensuring highly accurate data to support business planning and reporting.

Key Accountabilities

· Responds to requests for surveys and labor statistics to government agencies, and professional associations.

·Assist with ongoing operations and processes to maintain HRIS systems (MyHub, SAP) in order to deliver accurate data for business planning, systems, development, reporting and employee services

·Provide reports, statistics and analyses on employees, changes and issues to the rest of the business to ensure accurate costing and planning.

·Prepare and write relevant documentation in order that all stakeholders are fully informed, and all evidence or statistics are documented.

·Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid

·Understand Labor contracts and provide support for relevant processes such as step progressions, general wage increases, and annual incentive payroll for National Grid

·Support interfaces to various external vendors and internal business functions and understand data and problem resolution associated with those external vendors and internal business functions

·Understand the basics of the payroll operations function and be able to report on payroll data per pay period, month, quarter, or annual

Work under general supervision and work independently

· Analyze process issues, replicate the issue, and identify resolution to be communicated

· Develop and execute test scripts for patches and version upgrades made available via SAP

·Open process and close Help Desk issues within a defined service level agreement structure. Maintain and provide information such as regulatory information to ensure regulators and other stakeholders are kept up to date with relevant National Grid policies, processes, and programs.

·Proactively research, produce, monitor and analyze cost, policy or other information to enable analysis of key themes and trends.

·Manage the day-to-day relationship with relevant internal parties or employees to understand their requirements, deliver appropriate, customized solutions and advice, and build cross-functional working in line with National Grid policies and processes.

·Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders to share best practice, provide technical advice and build bases of influence.

·Assist and coordinate work on projects by contributing to developing project standards and processes to improve project delivery within the relevant function.

·Keep up to date with market/regulatory developments within own profession/discipline to ensure the optimization of best practice for National Grid

·Develop and maintain analytical systems, models, and procedures to support design solutions and enhance time/consistency/safety/efficiency and operability.

·Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to do things better to drive greater efficiencies within assigned area.


  • Degree / professional qualification and/or in-depth experience of HRIS approaches and practices (as well as a good understanding of employee services and payroll).

· In-depth experience of a field or multiple fields of work processes.

·Knowledge of relevant industry practice and legislation. Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in legislation or regulation.

· Knowledge of National Grid’s business operations, company policies and practices.

· Proficient in relevant software e.g. Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

· Experience and proficiency in relevant company related IT systems

· Knowledge of payroll processing is relevant
