National Grid is seeking a Manager for our Distribution Work Methods, Substation Standards and CMMS group in our Syracuse, NY location.

Job Purpose

To set the standards and working practices in Distribution OH and UG Work Methods, Substation standards and CMMS groups to ensure consistency across National Grid.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop an understanding of electrical equipment maintenance and operating requirements and maintain, develop, publish, and revise Work Methods, Policies, Procedures, Equipment Specifications, Maintenance Standards and Procedures and Bulletins, to ensure alignment with strategic business objectives and in compliance with all applicable codes and regulations

  • Develop high level plans and champion consistent standards of working through the use of pilots, in conjunction with business partners and service providers in order to test their validity across the business. Work with the National Grid Test Lab and Global Procurement to review and onboard approved tools for the company.

  • Review and research of OSHA (1910.269) and State mandates, test standards and other regulatory documents to create and maintain company operating policies. Provide support for incident analysis utilizing TAP ROOT methodology.

  • Promote the philosophy of safe team working and development across all operations groups in order to achieve business objectives and continuously improve performance. Ensure the safety of personnel by promoting National Grid's Safety vision, leading a safe work culture, and make certain compliance with Electric Operating Procedures, OSHA Standards and National Grid Safety Rules are met.

  • Manage operational process activities in order to achieve high productivity, low costs and efficient work practices and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and National Grid policies and procedures.

  • Work with process teams and other business units to translate objectives into well defined requirements with clearly defined business cases to support the standardization of practices across Electric Operation and Maintenance in National Grid.

  • Co-ordinate with field operations and engineering to solicit and share information and ensure everyone is working to the same standards in their work. Maintain communications with various department heads to make certain reliability is sustained while monitoring CAIDI and SAIDI guidelines set forth by the Public Service Commission.

  • Coordinate the activities associated with the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) Cascade that includes the substation equipment database, maintenance triggers, and maintenance history, and maintenance tablets.

  • Promote recommendations for the improvements through safety by design based on working practices identified in the field, failure investigations, service or product advisories, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and mandated requirements to meet standards and safety requirements in line with National Grid policies and processes.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Lead, motivate and develop a professional team, prioritize work and allocate resources to ensure results are delivered in line with expectations and objectives.

  • Liaise with relevant organizations to build capabilities and support campaigns and programs that promote safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school with knowledge of power systems or Related Experience in the field.

  • Knowledge of utility business to employ techniques, methods, and processes to ensure optimal outcomes in line with company objectives

  • Minimum of 8 years professional development in an engineering field, or equivalent).

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including influencing change and management of staff. Lets people affected by a decision know what’s happening and is able to clearly articulate reasons for a decision.

  • Proven ability to manage a high performing team, planning work and budgets, deploying resources and motivating team members effectively.

  • Detailed knowledge of safety policy and potential hazards of the electricity supply network.

  • Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and best practices.

  • Knowledge of current trends within the industry and developments in regulation and compliance.

  • Knowledge of National Grid's business operations, company policies and practices.

  • Knowledge of standards, procedures and safety practices related in the fields of work.

  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
