This requires us to deliver on our promises and always look for new opportunities to grow, both ourselves and our business. ## Job Purpose Project Estimating plays a critical role in shaping National Grid’s short and long term capital budgets for the core lines of businesses within the US. By working closely with numerous other departments including Engineering, Project Management, and Construction, our highly collaborative team develops detailed, defensible estimates using nationally recognized estimating techniques. Our unique position within the business allows us to participate as core project team members in challenging and interesting capital projects. We are constantly seeking ways to improve our own performance through team-developed department initiatives as well as analysis of actual spend to our estimates upon project completion. The Estimator will prepare accurate and timely construction estimates for large scale complex construction projects. Estimates include all aspects of a project including materials, engineering, permitting, environmental compliance, construction, labor and equipment. ## Key Accountabilities + Prepare budget estimates for the plant costs and risk and contingency allowance aspects of proposed projects at all stages of development from business case to award of construction contracts. + Work in a collaborative manner with Project Development to develop the best value project solution to meet the business need. + Support the Delivery Units during the tender phase, if requested, with cost estimating and clarifying assumptions. + Maintain and update the cost database to reflect current costs, including extracting actual cost data from completed projects. + Provide cost data on current, past and planned projects to support National Grid’s communications with the Regulator in unit cost format or as required by the Regulator. + Report on the progress of the cost estimate to the manager in National Grid requesting the production of the estimate. ## Qualifications + Bachelor's Degree preferred and 3+ years related work experience to include construction project management, risk management and/or estimating experience + Experience working on pipeline and LNG construction type projects preferred + Knowledge of planning, design, and construction process + Professional Estimator Certification in AACE International, ICEAA, or ASPE, preferred + Knowledge of construction means and methods, costs and engineering principles; construction drawing experience preferred + Experience managing the unit cost libraries of professional estimating software programs + Knowledge of Sage Estimating or other estimating software applications + Strong MS Office skills; strong problem solving and analytical skills + Portfolio of completed construction cost estimates with documented success experience preferred + Valid driver's license ## More Information This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills.
