Oversight of the development, maintenance and implementation of the Surry Emergency Preparedness Program.The primary role of this position is to perform develop and conduct Emergency Preparedness drills to ensure plant readiness in the event of an emergency. Support development and performance of Emergency Preparedness training.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to, program planning, drills and exercises, and implementation of EP policies, plans and procedures.
Provide leadership and direction to less experienced ERO staff, may serve as lead or technical experts on projects.
Required to perform individual tasks that specifically support Emergency Plan commitments.
Develop and maintain regular contact with various station, state(s), local and federal officials in order to advance emergency planning and preparedness.
Apply technical and leadership skills to leverage relationships with mid-level station and offsite agency management to advance preparedness.
Serve as technical Emergency Plan expert, and may represent the company on a task force or at The Institute of Nuclear Power Operations(INPO) on emergency preparedness meetings.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience
10 years work experience in a nuclear plant environment, demonstrating good working knowledge of emergency plan procedures and regulatory requirements.
5 years of experience as an Emergency Response Organization member.
Training or Operations background with experience in scenario development.
This experience can be obtained through normal job duties or through participation in EP Drill Development Teams.
Have or have held SRO license preferred. Knowledge of emergency preparedness standard techniques, procedures and criteria to assure personnel, facility and community/locality safety.
Familiar with applicable federal (FEMA, NRC, etc.) and state regulations and policies governing emergency response and preparedness.
Excellent planning and critical thinking skills, ability to direct the activities of others.
Excellent communications skills, ability to work with various levels of employees and external representatives.
Ability to plan, design, organize and conduct emergency drills and exercises.
Ability to support development and conduct of Emergency Preparedness ERO response training, including performing the role of Subject Matter expert in specific areas.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, with little direction or supervision.
Demonstrated strong leadership, skill in serving as a team or project lead and in providing guidance and work direction to less experience staff.
Education Level: Bachelor Degree in Business, Engineering, Science or Health Physics is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education.
