Ameren Simulator Software Specialist in Steedman, Missouri

The Nuclear Operations Training Simulator Design Specialist supports all software and hardware activities at the Callaway Energy Center (CEC) Simulator to ensure simulator fidelity, configuration control and availability to directly support the licensed operator training program.
Key responsibilities include:
Ensure the CEC simulator is continuously in full compliance with the requirements of all simulator related standards, regulatory guides and regulations directly supporting the Licensed Operator Training Program accredited under the National Academy for Nuclear Training.
Provide needed software and/or hardware engineering support as identified on the simulator priority work list to allow successful completion of all simulator scenarios and certification tests.
Implement and verify plant modifications on the simulator to match simulator performance to the reference unit control room performance.
Implement and maintain an ongoing configuration control process and completion of all software needed to support continuous operation of the simulator.
Review the RFR/CMP process for impact of plant modifications on the simulator facility.
Minimize the impact on the simulator training schedule due to changes to software or hardware and maintenance on the simulator. Coordinate and observe simulator related maintenance activities. Complete system backups to maintain integrity of the overall simulation system and provide daily support to address any immediate training concerns or needs.
Coordinate, develop, implement, review and approve software programs for appropriate systems, logics and controls, to include interface with vendors, engineering or other departments to ensure new software programs are effectively and efficiently implemented into the full-scope, LAB, desktop or other simulation.
Assume Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties in accordance with Callaway Energy Center Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP) including responding to assigned ERO facilities within the required RERP response time.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, Engineering or related technical degree, or current/prior SRO License/Certification is required. Five years of directly relevant experience (e.g., software development, nuclear operations, nuclear operations training, etc.) is required. A total of nine years of directly relevant experience (see examples above) with high school diploma or equivalent may be considered in lieu of Bachelor's degree or SRO License/Certification. Nuclear power plant experience in simulation, plant operations, and/or computer software programming preferred. Prior Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) nuclear systems training preferred. Knowledge of the present simulator operating system, simulator executive, instructor-station and model structure preferred.
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Good leadership, decision making, communication and human relations skills required. Security screening required for Callaway Energy Center access. Broad and comprehensive understanding of integrated plant operations, or the capability to acquire this knowledge rapidly. Proven ability to work efficiently and effectively with instructors and operations management with a minimum of direct supervision. Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills. Advanced knowledge of computer code development. Proficiency with current computer business applications desired.
Additional Information
The Training Simulator Design Specialist works a standard day shift in an office/plant environment. Additional hours and/or rotating shifts may be required depending on simulator availability for testing, during refueling outages and emergent plant activities as the needs arise.
