National Grid is hiring a People Advisor for our New York Business Unit, People Function. This position can be located in Brooklyn, NY, Melville, NY or Staten Island, NY and does require significant local travel through the Greater New York Metropolitan area.

Job Purpose

Working with the Lead Business Partners, this role provides support and HR advice to the business area(s), on a wide range of employee related issues and activities.

This individual will act as an extension of the Lead People Business Partners while partnering closely with the NY Labor Relations Team (LR) LR to provide holistic support to the entire workforce, signposting to LR where additional support may be

needed and fielding questions from represented employees when appropriate, alongside the Labor Relations and broader People function teams.

A successful candidate will have an eye for detail as they will lead on data and insights for the business areas to enable decision making, value-added conversations, and support critical HR processes. They will also be effective communicators who will provide coaching and guidance to managers, directors and supervisors. The ability to tailor communications based on audience, and act as a representative for the entire People function when traveling to different sites critical to this role. The ability to provide recommendations based on employee feedback contributing to the Field Focus strategy is also important for this role.

Key Accountabilities

  • Working with the CPO and Lead Business Partners, supporting supervisors & managers on a range of matters related to our colleagues, acting as a trusted advisor to build a reputation as a credible, professional and flexible HR professional. Including effective signposting to relevant support and resources.

  • Support the delivery of key HR processes /cyclical, business as usual (BAU) activities by working across the People team, with the Group People Function centers of excellence and business stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and compliance in the assigned business area.

  • Analyze data and provide insights for the business to tell a meaningful story on which business decisions can be made.

  • Support/ implement key projects to deliver people and business priorities (e.g. People Digital Transformation, Talent Management, End of Year Review Process, etc.).

  • Support the identification of opportunities by analysing key themes, trends (internal and external) and metrics from people dashboards to identify how different scenarios may impact on the business and make recommendations for moving forward.

  • Provide informal, local, Employee Relations support and advice to leaders in dealing with colleague matters effectively and sensitively, in line with policy, Code of Ethics and Company values. Refer any formal process to the relevant team.

  • Support managers with advice on People Policies.

  • Offer face to face support to management and represented employees by traveling to sites as needed, approximately 50% of the time.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree level in Business related topic or equivalent experience (4 years)

• SHRM-CP or PHR certification a plus

• Previous experience of working in a HR business partner/HR centre of excellence model

• Customer focus and stakeholder management – using influencing and communication skills to build relationships.

• Ability to handle conflict and deal with difficult employees and situations.

• Strong organizational agility.

• The ability to self-start and adapt to different business needs, with the mindset of continuous improvement.

• Discipline and attention to detail in managing data, policies and processes.

• Confident with large volumes of data and manipulating data to drive insights.

• Comfortable working in highly confidential environments.

• Competent in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams and SharePoint.

• Ability to travel to various locations as needed (within their respective region)

• Must have valid Driver’s license and vehicle.

• High level knowledge and experience across the full spectrum of HR activities including recruitment, Employee Relations etc. a plus.

• Experience of providing managers with support and advice tailored to the needs of the business but in line with NG policies, T&Cs etc.

• Experience of managing projects from initiation to implementation and review.

Salary

$105k - $116k a year
