This position can be located at any of Duke Energy Florida's operation complexes where there is vacancy. The exact location will be determined at the time of offer based on business needs.
The focus of this position is on the Duke Energy Storm Protection Plan, Substation Optimization and reliability programs within the Maintain organization. The focus will be working with internal stakeholders throughout Duke Energy to ensure successful implementation of reliability programs and develop the technical reporting outlining our outcomes Duke Energy's regulating body.
The Engineer III position is the advanced level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees in the Engineer III position solve complex problems in engineering areas of specialization with limited supervision. An Engineer III is expected to develop advanced skills, and the ability to work with greater independence. An Engineer III effectively applies fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is progressively complex and varied.
Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity,
Contributes to team decision-making in the accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities,
Deals with changing priorities and differing situations and makes decision that may affect the work of the team,
Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems and analysis of increasing scope and complexity,
Conducts engineering and related studies
Completes routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with increasing ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; increasingly competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems,
Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies,
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
Maintains accurate records and files, and
Supports the company’s goals and represents the company positively and professionally
Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relative experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.
Basic/Required Qualifications for an Engineer III:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
Minimum of 4 years engineering experience.
Valid Driver's License
Basic/Required Qualifications for a Senior Engineer:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree.
5 years of engineering experience and a registered Professional Engineer or
6 years of engineering experience
Valid Driver's License
Experience with an electric utilities distribution system
Strong technical writing capabilities
Strong collaboration and data gathering skills
Experience creating reports and dashboards with PowerBI
Experience with Maximo Software
Experience with BOUD software
Experience with MyWorld software
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam.
Increasingly proficient in principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry.
Demonstrated advancing application of engineering theories and principles.
Increasingly proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, preparing and presenting recommendations.
Good written and oral communication skills.
- H ybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the posted Duke Energy facility
