About The Position

The Tax Specialist will assist with general complex income tax assignments including income tax accounting, compliance and special projects. Duties will include understanding financial statement and regulatory impacts of tax adjustments, analyzing different accounts for tax treatment, and ensuring compliance with financial accounting rules and tax regulations. This position will receive general supervision.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Know and understand the operations of assigned legal entities.

  • Understand the transactions represented on the trial balance of assigned legal entities. Be able to communicate the appropriate tax treatment of transactions reflected on the trial balance.

  • Prepare the quarterly income tax provisions for each assigned legal entity.

  • Prepare the quarterly footnote disclosures.

  • Maintain the completeness and accuracy of the temporary difference ledger

  • Vouch for the adequacy of the deferred tax balances reflected on each legal entity balance sheet and that all deferred tax balances are classified appropriately

  • Ensure that all taxes payable and receivable are properly reconciled and classified on the balance sheet

  • Assist in the preparation of the federal and state income tax returns for the assigned legal entities

  • Own assigned tax processes and coordinate the informational flow needed for that process to provide accurate, timely, and meaningful data.

  • Ensure that all Section 404 internal controls are maintained

  • Able to complete tax research projects

  • Additional responsibilities related to special projects as assigned


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration from an accredited college or university required. Three or more years of income tax experience at a professional level in a public accounting firm, corporate tax department or government agency required (1 year required with specified Master's degree). MBA or Master’s level degree (Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or Master of Taxation) or CPA preferred. Experience in regulated utility income tax accounting preferred.

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook required

· Experience with Oracle, Power Plan/Power Tax and OneSource software products preferred

· Strong written and verbal communication skills required

· Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment required

· Ability to handle multiple competing priorities at a time required
