Ameren Senior Network Engineer - F5 Administrator in St. Louis, Missouri

About The Position

  • This position is for an Operations Engineer performing support for Ameren's LAN/WAN and data center infrastructure with a particular emphasis on administration, provisioning, and support of F5 infrastructure deployed for LTM, GTM(or BIG-IP DNS), and APM.

  • Administers production F5 infrastructure to support project requests.

  • Provides troubleshooting support to application/development teams for the F5 environments.

  • Leads efforts to analyze, troubleshoot and resolve network incidents

  • Responsible for operations of Ameren’s internal data communication systems, including LANs and/or WANs

  • Performs activities related to Network Performance, Lifecycle, Reliability and Problem Management

  • Plans, designs and implements networked systems, including configurations

  • Supports/troubleshoots network problems

  • Researches and evaluates emerging network and communication technology

Key responsibilities include:

  • Installs complex hardware, systems and software for network and/or security components

  • Evaluates new and emerging technologies

  • Recommends solutions that address the user satisfaction and business needs of the organization

  • Develops and maintains scripts to facilitate network administrative tasks and automate repetitive processes Leads teams to conduct the technical analysis of current networks

  • Writes requirements documents for evaluation of new hardware/software

  • Leads the implementation of data/ system security processes including access controls, monitoring software, and generation of security reports

  • Executes data backup and recovery routines on a specified schedule or as requested

  • Reviews the Digital organization’s technology enablement and integration plans; demonstrates technical expertise within the network through determining best course of action for network-specific projects

  • Proactively communicates Ameren’s network strategy and links to broader digital objectives across the digital organization

  • Proactively communicates Ameren’s network strategy and links to broader digital objectives across the digital organization

  • Identifies trends in issues and determines the root cause to reduce future issues

  • Manages and ensures quality of medium risk/impact network installations or enhancements (e.g., coordinating meetings, tracking budget, following up on action items)

  • Coaches less experienced co-workers and provides feedback to enhance skills and knowledge

  • Mentors less experienced co-workers

  • Supports training and college recruiting for co-workers

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in engineering, mathematics, computer science or business

  • 5+ years of relevant experience

  • Proficient in F5 LTM, GTM(or Big-IP DNS) and APM using F5 Big-IP CLI and/or GUI (preferably both)

  • Experienced with maintaining F5 Big-IP platform (software updates, backups, and restores)

  • In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Detailed knowledge of the planning, design, implementation and troubleshooting of network systems

  • Detailed understanding of routing and switching technology, IP, and signaling

  • Detailed knowledge of ITIL framework

  • Detailed knowledge of industry trends and products

  • Detailed knowledge of waterfall and agile project management processes, tools and techniques

Related Skills (Preferred)

  • Working knowledge of SSL certs.

  • Good understanding of application layer packet headers

  • Understands DNS structure and architecture
