About The Position
The Senior Financial Specialist, Internal Controls assesses the design of internal controls and monitors adherence to control policies. The Internal Controls group coordinates the Corporate Controller’s function to review financial processes and works closely with subject matter experts and auditors (internal and external) to ensure financial statement risk of misstatement is appropriately mitigated and control documentation allows for clear understanding of responsibilities and efficient audits. In addition, this role assesses the significance of deficiencies and monitors remediation. However, the nature of this role will require the individual to interact with broader leadership, including Managers and Directors.
Key responsibilities include:
Assess financial statement risks to verify the completeness of existing internal controls and reduce SEC reporting risk.
Work closely with control owners to design efficient controls that mitigate financial statement risk and meet control objectives. Additionally, identify automation opportunities to reduce risks associated with manual controls.
Prepare and maintain SOX narrative and control documentation, ensuring it is appropriately detailed, accurate, and meets the requirements of internal and external audit teams.
Collaborate with internal and external auditors to maintain an efficient walkthrough and control testing program.
Work with management and the internal and external audit teams to evaluate control deficiencies and assess the severity, magnitude, root cause, and remedial actions.
Advise and educate business process owners on the importance of controls and the impact on the reliability of the financial statements.
Lead other ad hoc financial projects, as necessary.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required. CPA also required. Advanced Degree preferred. Three or more years of accounting or relevant experience required. In-depth internal controls experience strongly desired. Previous project leadership and ability to balance competing tasks preferred.
