Ameren Senior Cloud Database Administrator in St. Louis, Missouri

About The Position

  • Maintains responsibility for planning, coordinating, modelling, designing, implementing and administering databases in cloud environments.

  • Responsible for performance optimization and tuning, documentation and change management.

  • Supports developers with database planning activities, monitors application related jobs and data replication.

  • Establishes and maintains security and integrity controls.

  • Formulates, performs and monitors backup strategy and disaster recovery.

  • Formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintains responsibility for application level database administration

  • Defines, develops and implements automated and repeatable processes to meet cloud data requirements, including those for availability, reliability, confidentiality, integrity, performance scalability, auditing and security using AWS tools and processes

  • Provide routine maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting and problem resolution for production and non-production databases, including security and software updates

  • Investigates and resolves complex database issues

  • Defines and manages database access control lists (ACLs)

  • Creates and/or modifies complex database objects, procedures, functions & scripts

  • Provides on-call support to resolve incidents for numerous product teams across varying cloud databases

  • Supports the Database Team with more complex configuration and administration of additional database environments

  • Defines, communicates and enforces database standards

  • Analyzes, resolves and tests defects or improvements in the database

  • Implements and maintains databases. Provides technical assistance in identifying and developing database systems or parts of larger systems

  • Manages delivery of projects in partnership with business stakeholders, by demonstrating a deep understanding of the business needs and how technical analysis can produce solutions

  • Works to implement customized solutions to support customer requirements

  • Works with teams of stakeholders to achieve objectives; communicates how infrastructure work drives value for the business

  • Collaborates with other Digital departments to provide problem resolution, excellent service to user community, and help set service level expectations

  • Coaches less experienced co-workers and provides feedback to enhance skills and knowledge


  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in AWS cloud databases development (preferred AWS involving 1 or more of the following: MongoDB (noSQL), DynamoDB (noSQL), Aurora MySql, Postgres, MSSQL, or ElastiCache (memcache or redis)

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Detailed knowledge of database administration, including definition, structure, documentation, operational guidelines and security

  • Detailed knowledge of business client application(s) and database integration and implementation

  • Detailed knowledge of performance monitoring and tuning

  • Detailed knowledge of database management software

  • Detailed knowledge of backup and recovery strategies

  • Detailed knowledge of writing database queries and scripting languages

  • Experience versioning data models and database management/upgrade scripts with standard software configuration management (CM) tools, such as Git

  • Experience leveraging automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible, preferred

  • Experience with DevOps practices, Agile methodologies

  • Working knowledge of relevant operating systems

  • Working knowledge of other areas of Digital, such as cybersecurity
