About The Position
The Manager, Data Engineering leads data ingest, transformation, storage, and delivery functions at Ameren. This position will establish best practices for ETL development to ensure that Ameren's data is appropriately captured, cleansed, enriched, and delivered in a manner to maximize the time-to-insight for the enterprise as we migrate to a cloud architecture. A successful candidate will enthusiastically lead a team of in-house and remote developers and engage with a variety of business and technical leaders to ensure that solutions are aligned to business objectives.
Oversees the data engineering and platform architecture functions responsible for the design, development, testing, support and program methods, processes, and systems to consolidate and analyze structured and unstructured data across diverse sources to generate actionable insights and solutions for client services and product enhancement.
Leads enterprise-wide data integration, warehousing and modeling activities across platforms
Uses best practices in data engineering, data warehouse development and integration with enterprise systems
Key responsibilities include:
Direct, motivate and develop co-workers, maximizing their individual contribution, professional growth, and their ability to partner with colleagues as a team.
Demonstrates depth of experience when translating complex business requirements in data engineering solutions and mentors/coaches co-workers on how to best support business needs
Partners with multiple business area stakeholders to ensure that business needs / requirements are being met
Determines best practices with respect to data warehouse design and management; researches external opportunities and vendors
Displays deep understanding of business needs; guides junior level co-workers on business partnership techniques
Exhibits deep understanding of ETL processes and tools and coaches junior co-workers on the ETL process
Partners with business analysts to ensure that project and functional specifications are developed, completed and communicated in a timely fashion
Utilizes deep technical experience with data modeling techniques to coach and mentor junior team members
Utilizes in-depth knowledge of data warehouse design and data integration / mapping techniques to mentor and coach junior co-workers
Works with junior co-workers to help them understand the organization’s objectives, and the impact on own projects
Reaches across multiple functions to implement the new visualization tools and techniques models into production and monitors their performance
Coaches junior co-workers on agile software development processes and the development lifecycle
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in mathematics, statistics, computer science or business
5+ years of supervisory experience required
5+ years of relevant experience
In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Demonstrated leadership and partnering skills, plus excellent verbal and written communication skills with both technical and non-technical partners (including senior leadership) with focus on informing, influencing and relationship building.
Experience with cloud data warehouse technologies such as: AWS, Azure, Teradata Vantage,
Experience with cloud ETL & Change/Data/Capture tools such as: Informatica IDMC, Qlik, Kafka
Experience with leading large scale system integrator projects to solution and implement strategic data warehouse projects
Experience partnering with peers, architects, data engineers, business intelligence engineers, and other technical staff to determine the most appropriate technical strategy and designs to meet business needs
Must be skilled at setting strategies and developing and executing plans around the strategies.
Must be a motivated, engaged, and organized self-starter with strong business knowledge and technical skills.
Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment, decision-making, accuracy, creativity, and initiative required.
Strong verbal, presentation, and writing skills required.
Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills required.
Deep expertise in data organization and design principles for enterprise data warehouses (EDW), data marts and data lakes
Expertise and experience with building sustainable, scalable processes that support data transformation, structures, metadata, accuracy checking, and workload management
Deep knowledge of cloud architecture
Understanding of building and optimizing data pipelines, architectures and datasets from structured datasets
Experience with big data querying tools
Expertise in agile and project methodologies and processes
Strong analytical and creative thinking to address complex business problems
