About The Position

The Corporate Contributions Program Manager assists in the development, investigation, and evaluation of grant applications from area nonprofits that align with the corporate contribution program's strategic funding areas and will be responsible for one or more of those areas. The Corporate Contributions Program Manager also serves as a researcher and facilitator of grantor-grantee meetings, site visits, and program evaluations, and as the corporate contribution department's liaison with Ameren's communications team to ensure robust promotion of funding and outreach initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Grantmaking

  • Develop connections with area nonprofits as well as peer grant makers

  • Counsel grant seekers about Ameren's community initiatives, working together to determine viability of a grant request

  • Conduct review of grant proposals, including site visits and/or virtual meetings as needed

  • Prepare written and oral evaluations and recommendations for team review

  • Research, develop, and present ideas for strategic initiatives designed to have a broader impact on Ameren's philanthropic outreach strategy

  • Grants Monitoring, Management, and Research

  • Manage ongoing correspondence with grant recipients

  • Enhance, modify and/or create grant application(s) templates and post-grant forms, and track interim and final reports from grantees

  • Conduct periodic site visits to check grantee progress and identify areas for follow-up and support

  • Assist in maintaining database on all proposals, grants, and contacts

  • Outcomes, Evaluation, and Learning

  • Review and work with grant applicants during the grant application process to strengthen opportunities for successful outputs

  • Participate with staff in the review of grant reports to determine if the project achieved its intended outcomes

  • Help identify and/or enhance criteria for evaluating success of projects in alignment with Ameren's corporate contribution goals and objectives, evaluate completed projects according to criteria, and disseminate results through communications materials and reports to Ameren co-workers and leadership

  • Research, curate, and share best practices, resources, and emerging trends for one or more of Ameren's funding focus areas

  • Communications and Outreach Publicity

  • Serve as team's primary point of contact for assisting Ameren Communications team with publicizing Corporate Contributions, Ameren's COST (Salvage) program, co-worker volunteerism, co-worker fundraising campaigns, company-sponsored events, etc.

  • Create and maintain a community outreach promotions calendar, propose placements in social media for Ameren and nonprofit partner, provide evergreen content for Ameren website, intranet, and newsletter vehicles. Also work with grantees to drum up shared publicity opportunities.

  • Perform general corporate contribution department support activities and carry out special projects as assigned

  • Represent Ameren as professional face to the community and serve as an integral part of the corporate contributions team at Ameren cross-functional meetings


Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited university, preferably in Communications, Nonprofit Management, or Social Work. Five years of relevant experience in a community relations department (preferably with a medium to large corporation) or five years of nonprofit leadership experience, required. Fundraising or program management experience preferred. Knowledge of the nonprofit community in St. Louis preferred. In-depth knowledge of local and national philanthropic trends preferred. Writing for web, newsletter, PowerPoint presentations, social media and other communication vehicles is a requirement for the position, as is collating information for review. Knowledge of Energy industry as a plus. Knowledge of ESG trends a plus.

Candidate must possess critical thinking skills and outstanding project management skills, with extraordinarily strong written, verbal, and presentation/communication acumen. Excellent recall and ability to process multiple streams of information quickly. Ability to work independently, at a home office for a period of time, and collaboratively, in teams. Management of multiple high-profile projects at one time is critical. Must demonstrated sound judgement based on research/facts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications; must have in depth proficiency of Excel and PowerPoint. Strong personal interest in one or more of the following: Social services, community development, early/K-12 education and economic opportunity, natural resources, and the following Ameren competencies: Think Customer, Inspire and Engage, Foster Innovation, Drive Results, Champion Learning, Build Trust, and Be Strategic.
