Line Mechanic C - A
Line Mechanics classified as experienced apprentice and higher are involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Duties also include driving and operating line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment.
NOTE: Each classification in the Line Mechanic job progression builds upon the skills, abilities, and knowledge learned in previous classifications, or equivalent external experience.
Primary Job Duties, Tasks, and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities below apply to Line Mechanics C and above:
Assemble, install, maintain, remove, and inspect overhead and underground facilities, including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures, and other associated equipment, under supervision level determined by classification and/or skills.
Build and erect equipment mountings, such as regulator and transformer platforms, and build overhead transformer installations.
Conduct proper tagging procedures while performing switching of energized circuits.
Perform inspection and troubleshooting of lines.
Complete monthly apprentice cards and submit to local supervision for review.
Direct the work of employees and/or other crew assigned to assist.
Perform work of similar or lesser skill, as needed and assigned.
Assist employees of equal or higher classification.
Responsibilities below apply to Line Mechanics B and higher , in addition to above duties:
Connect, check phase rotation, parallel and check voltage on single and three-phase transformer installations
Locate and correct faults and hazardous conditions on lines and/or equipment
Prepare, conduct, and facilitate safety meetings.
Responsibilities below apply to Line Mechanic A , in addition to above listed duties:
Install and maintain transmission and distribution facilities, and all types of line equipment, on the most congested types of construction both energized and de-energized.
Work with live line equipment on energized circuits for emergency repairs or routine modifications of facilities.
Issue, obtain, accept, and release transmission and distribution clearances or permits in accordance with established switching and tagging procedures.
Instruct customers regarding meter or service locations and advise on service interruptions related to customers’ electrical equipment.

Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: For consideration as Line Mechanic C, a minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Line Mechanic D, or equivalent external experience and education/certification, as determined by the Company; For higher classifications, two (2) years of work experience in the previous classification or equivalent experience.
Licenses/Certifications: Valid Class A CDL
Other Requirements – Additional Information:
Certification or graduation from power line vocational/trade school program is preferred
Prior experience working with high-voltage lines is necessary for consideration into progression as Line Mechanic C or higher
Must acquire the qualifications and skills necessary to continuously advance to next highest level of classification within the line of progression, and possess ability and desire to acquire all necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the journey-level (Line Mechanic A), and be qualified at all levels through demonstration, examination, and/or performance appraisal.
Successful completion of the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) Test is required.

A general physical strength test is required for this position.
A line mechanic skills and abilities assessment is also required for this position, and will be administered to determine entry classification/step into the line of progression.
Must reside within 30 minutes safe drive time of reporting location or be willing to relocate within six months of start date to meet distance requirement; Relocation will be at personal expense.
