If you are seeking a role for managing the safe and reliable service to all WGL customers, while operating within state and federal regulatory requirements, this may be the role for you. WGL is seeking a Director of Field Operations (Below Ground) to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to over one million customers throughout the Washington Gas service territory, by directing and overseeing the Below-Ground Field Operations staff and contracted labor force. You will maintain the below-ground natural gas distribution infrastructure and manage training and qualification requirements of personnel.
Accountable for providing safe and reliable service to all Washington Gas customers, in compliance with all state and federal regulatory requirements and internal operating standards.
Responsible for the formulation and implementation of operating plans for the unit that includes all planned leak repairs and non-leak maintenance of the Company’s below-ground facilities.
Represents Washington Gas to external parties, including regulatory and governmental agencies
Responsible for the proper administration and management execution of labor contracts.
Formulate estimates of the work portfolio and determines the appropriate mix of internal and external resources required to achieve goals, and secures those resources.
Build, adapt, and modify the unit operating plan to respond to changes in the environment, weather, natural or manmade disasters to maintain safety and meet corporate objectives.
Understand and utilizes risk mitigation strategies, able to appropriately and rapidly size up situations and take action.
Provide active design, leadership, and advocacy of a continuous improvement culture, exercising robust root cause analysis and inferential analytics to drive operational excellence on important goals, to include personnel safety, pipeline safety, customer experience and operational efficiency.
Responsible for developing and driving strategies for the Systems Operations software that maximize process efficiency.
Build strong and positive working relationships with all functional areas and stakeholders across the Corporation, including Above Ground Field Operations, Dispatch, IT, Damage Prevention, System Protection, Construction and Engineering.
Continually develop internal candidates for future leadership positions in the organization.
Bachelor's Degree with a minimum ten (10) years relevant operations experience and three (3) years supervisory experience. Experience can be used in lieu of education.
Experience managing a budget and financial forecasting
Results-oriented change agent, with operational excellence experience.
Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, clients, and internal stakeholders.
Working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations for maintaining and operating a natural gas distribution system, for both above and below ground facilities.
Direct supervision within an operations arena preferred
Management of a bargaining unit labor workforce, and directing outsourced vendors preferred
