Safety Specialist Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for development and implementation of safety compliance programs, policies and procedures including training, periodic inspections, evaluations and other activities as required. Perform a variety of analytical and support tasks for the Safety Group. Develop and manage safety metrics and reports to track leading and lagging indicators of safety; coordinate with the safety team to leverage data to reduce risk and drive continuous improvement. On-call 24 hours/day, seven days/week on rotational schedule.

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of safety dashboard to include metrics and KPIs to track and manage field based activities including but not limited to % completion of training, facility audits, safety committees, ergonomics and associated action items by location.

• Leverages Tableau, Power BI, and other data analytics tools to develop trend reports and analyze the relationship between consistent execution of proactive safety activities (leading indicators) lagging indicators (DART and preventable vehicle accidents) to identify additional opportunities for improvement.

• Leverage Microsoft project or other tools to develop efficient systems for tracking multiple projects an initiatives

• Tracks all compliance training in Excel, LMS and/or AIC, runs periodic exception reports and follows up with operations to ensure WGL is current on required make-up and annual refresher training

• Supports the Lead Safety and Compliance Analyst in the research, development and implementation of long-range compliance plans, policies, procedures and special projects for all WGL entities

• Provides technical and tactical support on complex occupational health & safety issues that may have significant impact on WGL employees, resources, revenue, and operation

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree Business, Safety, Occupational Health or related field

• 3+ Years Relevant business experience

• Proven experience in business applications, data analysis and project management

• Proven ability to proficiently use software/technology to gather, input, report and present data.

• Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners at all levels of the organization to drive implementation through indirect authority/influence.

• Experience developing and/or managing occupational health and safety programs preferred

• Knowledge and training in investigative practices, safety and occupational health incident investigation and root cause analysis.

• Excellent communication skills required, including public speaking.

• Demonstrated experience evaluating leading and lagging indicators and applying the findings to program improvement initiatives

• Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret data, identify relevant issues in solving business problems.

• Demonstrated ability to meet numerous and completing internal and external deadlines
