Washington Gas Light Co. Data Analyst / Reporting Specialist (Specialist Or Sr. Specialist Level) in Springfield, Virginia

Job Description

WGL is seeking a Data Analyst in our Construction division at our Springfield, VA location. The Analyst will be responsible for identifying, designing, implementing, and deploying meaningful analysis, reports and metrics to drive construction performance. The Analyst will measure and track current performance and forecast future performance. The Analyst will provide timely, actionable information to decision makers in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple projects and deadlines. The position uses data analysis and reporting software such as SAP, SQL, SAS and Tableau to collect data from disparate data systems across multiple software platforms to complete analytics. **WGL will hire at the Specialist or Sr. Specialist Level Depending on experience

  • Works with appropriate resources and end users to identify, design, test and implement new performance metrics and reports.

  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure that analysis, reports and metrics are appropriate and useful.

  • Assists with process improvements by leveraging knowledge and understanding of systems, data & processes.

  • Supports decision-making with data gathering and analysis.

  • Supports regulatory data gathering, as needed.

  • Prepares analyses and presentations to support recommendations to all levels of the organization.

  • Develops an expertise with key systems, such as the work management systems (ARM+SAP) , financial systems (Peoplesoft + Powerplant) , and mapping system (Small World) .

  • Assists with data cleansing in systems and reports when identified.

  • Provides timely and accurate responses to customer requests for information gathering and analysis.

  • Facilitates communication and information flow between Business Units.

  • Produces routine reporting and analysis accurately per established deadlines.

  • Retrieves and analyzes data to supports special projects or ad hoc business case preparation.

  • Develops a subject matter expertise related to construction processes and supporting analytics to assist leadership with solving problems.

Requirements:

  • Applicable certifications or specialized training preferred.

  • Demonstrated proficiency performing data analysis to support business decisions.

  • Proficiency using Excel, SAP, SQL and/or SAS to retrieve, analyze, and present information.

  • Demonstrated good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate logically and concisely to stakeholders of various seniority.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop solutions to complex problems, obtain buy-in, and drive to results with a focus on quality, accuracy and continuous improvement.

  • Demonstrated ability to work well both independently and as an effective member of a team.

  • Working knowledge of WG enterprise systems preferred. (ARM, SAP, Peoplesoft, Powerplant, Smallworld)

Working knowledge of regulated utility industry practices or demonstrated ability to understand and master nuances of financial practices in multiple industries preferred.

Requirements: Specialist Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Statistics or other relatable quantitative field is required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience.

  • A Master’s degree is preferred and may be applied toward experience requirement.

Requirements: Senior Specialist Level

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Engineering, Statistics or other relatable quantitative field is required.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.

  • A Master’s degree is preferred and may be applied toward experience requirement.
