Job Description

Position Summary

Purchases and sells natural gas to meet customer needs. Optimizes the use of portfolio assets.

*WGL is also open to hiring at the Associate, Specialist or Sr. Buyer Level depending on experience

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Acts upon opportunities to enhance portfolio value through short-term trading

• Participates in implementation of portfolio optimization strategies

• Analyzes wellhead, city-gate, storage supplies, and identifies potential problems

• Assists in the administration of contracts for gas supply services; develops and interprets contract language; evaluates supplier performance and works with supplier to ensure contract compliance; Negotiates in both buying and selling supply services

• Communicates with suppliers and pipeline representatives on commodity purchasing volumes and deliveries

• Builds and maintains relationships with potential gas supply and gas transportation counterparties

• Purchases commodity via the Intercontinental Exchange Platform or Instant Messenger

• Serves as liaison for supply problem resolution between Washington Gas and suppliers on any of the 4 interstate pipelines that serves WGL’s territory

• Analyzes delivery reports to ensure appropriate supply to city-gate

• Monitors storage service activities by activities reviewing the pipeline’s reports to match the reports Energy Acquisition maintains

• Nominates and schedules commodity purchases via electronic bulletin boards and Gas Pro system

• Coordinates with other Specialists in Capacity Administration and/or Back Office Administration to ensure that service requirements and pricing structures are confirmed and validated

• Identifies and reports on opportunities to enhance the portfolio value through short-term trading

• Creates standardized and custom reports in support of the business or support unit

• Works collaboratively with Risk and Credit staff to review the NAESB contracts for approval by Washington Gas to conduct business with potential suppliers for commodity transactions

• Serves as secondary operational contact with the company’s gas dispatch function and external optimization partners

• Prepares reports, participates in meetings and attends proceedings in support of the business unit’s planning and regulatory issues

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities

• Bachelor's Degree preferably in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, or Technology required

• Demonstrated working knowledge of gas trading process and/or interstate gas pipeline systems preferred

• Proven ability to use computer software and applications, including Microsoft Office, for data management, analysis and reporting purposes

• Demonstrated ability to successfully influence/persuade to achieve desired business outcomes

• Demonstrated ability to write and present diverse ideas logically and concisely

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize workloads and to work independently to achieve business goals

• Proven ability to work at a fast pace to perform a wide variety of functions

Associate Requirements:

0-2 Years of experience in the natural gas industry or equivalent relevant experience, preferably in gas trading or scheduling is required

Specialist Requirements:

• 3+ Years of experience in the natural gas industry or equivalent relevant experience, preferably in gas trading or scheduling required

Sr. Specialist Requirements:

• 5+ Years of experience in the natural gas industry or equivalent relevant experience, preferably in gas trading or scheduling required
