The Product Owner at Avista facilitates an Agile team that works within the scrum framework to deliver value for various stakeholders and helps move our utility forward. The Product Owner leads the translation of business capability requirements into technical requirements and works with the business to prioritize the backlog at the program and project levels. The Product Owner encompasses both project management and product management skills. For this posting, we are hiring two Network Engineering Product Owners – one that specializes in the delivery of Enterprise Network Systems infrastructure & access, and another that specializes in the delivery of Control Network Systems infrastructure & access, including network transport systems.

The ideal candidate will have experience delivering safe and reliable network systems and communication infrastructure for corporate enterprise and utility control networks, as well as general utility shared services. Product Owner and/or Scrum Master certification is a plus. Requires a BA/BS in business or technology related field, with 5 years of experience as a product owner, IT business analyst, scrum master, network engineer and/or product manager in a network systems or business technology setting. Experience in a network engineering leadership role preferred. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
A superior ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences and stakeholders (technical and non-technical).
Strong analytical skills and working knowledge of various aspects of the utility business
Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum practices and tools such as Azure DevOps
Strong facilitation and mediation skills and practices to be leveraged within and between business units to address competing demands
Effective verbal and written communication with a variety of audiences and (technical and non-technical) stakeholders
Understanding of Network Engineering principles and applicability, including the OSI 7 Layer Model
Capable to navigate competing demands on network engineering resources and help prioritize based on business value outcomes while balancing a strong network posture
Background knowledge and understanding of a minimum of 3 of the 5 following areas:
Data center & cloud network infrastructures: Edge distribution, campus core, collocation hub, SDN platforms
Application delivery: Application services/load balancing, remote access systems
Enterprise Access: WAN Edge, LAN Access, WAN Access
Corporate Network Services
Control Network Services
Primary Backhaul Services: MAN, SONET, TDM, MW systems, Fiber-optic Systems
Converged Field Area Network (FAN): Radio Area Networks, Neighborhood Area Networks, Field Systems FAN Access
