Job Description

This position will monitor, control, and evaluate the natural gas system in accordance with the written Control Room Management procedures on a rotating 24-hour/7 day a week basis. This is required per PHMSA 49 CFR 192 which requires Avista to perform gas control room management functions as defined in the PHMSA Gas Control Room Management (CRM) Rule. The Gas Controller must follow Control Room Management rules and comply with DOT mandated training and/or Operator Qualification program as a Gas Controller.


  • Have knowledge and understanding of gas system construction, service, and operations.

  • Ability to work rotating shifts.

  • Ability to learn a variety of technology platforms to support dispatch operations.

  • Basic computer knowledge and skills required.

  • Ability to effectively listen and communicate in both written and verbal format.

  • Ability to acquire Gas Control Room Operator Qualification certification.

  • Journeyman or three (3) years gas operations experience related to construction or engineering.

  • Other combinations of experience and/or education maybe considered.

Employees may be required to have residency in a location where they can respond to call-out in a timely manner.
