Our construction crews drivemillions of milesevery year and the key to successfully getting the job done is a well-managed and safe fleet of vehicles. The Fleet Manager is accountable for on-going fleet maintenance and compliance initiatives within assigned area. This includes vehicle maintenance programs, licensing, title, registration, as well as the management of drivers, fuel cards and telematics. Serve as subject matter expert resource on all matters relating to DOT/FMCSA compliance. Responsible for material and warehouse management as well as local facilities.

  • Administers local driver qualification program / files

  • Oversees all activities relating to motor vehicles and equipment (powered construction equipment, towable compressors, trailers and the like)

  • Coordinates with operations leaders to ensure any rental units needed are sourced in a timely manner, managed while on hand, and returned having met all rental company and operations requirements

  • Maintains all local/state/federal regulatory compliance and reporting as it relates to the fleet and equipment

  • Ensures vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance programs are followed, timely approval and completion of service per preventive maintenance schedules is met

  • Performs regular fleet inspections to ensure safety and quality standards are at the level expected. Communicate effectively with drivers and equipment operators ensuring compliance with NPL fleet and equipment policies, structured reporting to operations leaders and direct supervisor

  • Create and sustain an environment for NPL’s Culture of Personality Responsibility to Make It Safe, Do It Right, and Be Highly Productive

  • Conducts fleet reviews and internal audits

  • Participate in Division Safety Committee

  • Assist Safety department with Incident Investigations and Root Cause Analyses

  • Interview and hire Fleet / Warehouse positions, manage those positions to NPL’s Culture of Personality Responsibility to Make It Safe, Do It Right, and Be Highly Productive

  • Train and mentor direct reports in line with the NPL Core Values in support of One Team initiative.

  • If applicable, conduct performance reviews of employees

  • Manage all activities related to both Customer and Company owned materials

  • Manage all activities related to local facilities including building maintenance, security, access control, and alarm systems

  • Perform any other duties as assigned

Education, Skills, Experience Needed

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent

  • 5 years of experience with construction equipment and 3 years of supervisory experience

  • Extensive knowledge of OSHA, PHMSA and DOT regulations

  • Knowledge to interpret telematics and GPS data for fleet vehicles and equipment.

  • Understanding of third party maintenance and regulatory compliance programs

  • In-state driver’s license with no more than 3 moving violations and no DUIs within a two year rolling period

  • Ability to travel within the state routinely and out of state occasionally

  • Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary with little or no notice

  • General office and computer skills

Working Environment

  • Work is performed in a typical indoor office environment

  • Regular visits to construction sites requiring use of personal protective equipment with exposure to adverse conditions

  • Mobility required within an office, warehouse and construction site environments

  • Travel will be required as needed

  • Flexibility to work various schedules and stay late when necessary with little or no notice

  • Must be able to read documents, use a computer, communicate verbally and in writing

  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds


  • Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
