Electrical Engineering Manager

DDS Engineering and Surveying, LLP (DDSE), is an experienced and highly qualified natural gas/civil engineering, permitting and survey firm that has been performing consulting engineering and construction services in the natural gas industry for many years. We currently perform these engineering services related to natural gas transmission, distribution main design, station design (M&R, gate stations, and regulator stations) and customer services (residential and commercial) for a variety of natural gas customers throughout the Northeast. Our dynamic team is comprised of experienced natural gas engineers, civil and mechanical engineers, surveyors, gas construction personnel as well as in-house staff expertise in the areas of legal, compliance, and safety. With flexibility in office location (NY, PA, MA) our fast-growing energy division is seeking thoughtful and highly motivated individuals to be part of our team.

We are hiring an electrical engineering manager to design and implement complex electrical systems for natural gas utility facilities. This is a fast paced, dynamic position that will require working both independently and as a member of a team of professionals moving projects from concept through construction phases. The engineer is responsible for planning and preparing engineering and designs to meet our customers project objectives for a variety of types of projects. Responsibilities include:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations to ensure high-quality work and professional development.

  • Develop and execute the electrical engineering strategy, goals, and objectives aligned with the company's overall business strategy.

  • Oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment used in natural gas operations, including power distribution, substations, control systems, and instrumentation.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and project management, to ensure the effective integration of electrical systems and equipment.

  • Implement and update electrical systems for facilities and stations, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety codes.

  • Develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, specifications, and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, codes, and safety standards.

  • Conduct technical evaluations and assessments of electrical equipment, systems, and technologies to identify improvement opportunities, reduce costs, and enhance performance.

  • Provide technical expertise and support during the development and execution of capital projects, including feasibility studies, budgeting, equipment selection, and procurement.

  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies and contractors, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and effective project execution.

  • Stay updated on emerging electrical engineering trends, technologies, and best practices in the natural gas industry and provide recommendations for their adoption.

  • Support incident investigations and root cause analyses related to electrical systems failures or incidents, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the electrical engineering team, promoting a proactive approach to risk identification and mitigation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.

  • Proven experience in electrical engineering roles within the natural gas industry, with a focus on electrical systems and equipment.

  • Demonstrated experience in managing and leading a team of engineers.

  • In-depth knowledge of electrical engineering principles, codes, standards, and regulations relevant to the natural gas industry, such as NEC, IEEE, and API.

  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems, substations, control systems, and instrumentation used in natural gas facilities.

  • Proficient in electrical design software, AutoCAD, and relevant engineering tools.

  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and practices, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex electrical systems and propose effective solutions.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results within budget and schedule constraints.

  • Safety-focused mindset with a commitment to promoting a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and practices.
