Conduct assigned work so that personnel and the public are safeguarded at all times. Perform tests assigned to the group following prescribed procedures and verified by Laboratory & Testing Services. Obtain clearance in the field and make necessary arrangements for the performance of the work. Modify test procedures, apparatus, set-ups, methods, and computer applications to meet requirements for tests.

Duties to include:

Performs the duties required in connection with the installation, operation and maintenance of all types of protective and auxiliary relays and associated equipment in generating stations, switching stations, substations, customer installations and field locations. Performs all work with relays and SCADA equipment with the exception of data base configuration and maintenance. Performs field revision to prints, as required. Pulls and terminates control cable as required for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and removal of protective relays and associated equipment.

· Review elementary one-line diagrams and control wiring diagrams

· Perform point to point checks on control wiring

· Perform commissioning, calibration, operational and functional tests on multi-functional solid state protective relays utilizing a 3-phase test set

· Configure and modify protective relay settings in accordance with SC/Coor Study

· Troubleshoot protection and control schemes involving multi-functional solid state relays

· Perform full functional tests of protection and control systems

· Perform acceptance testing / commissioning of protective relays, CCVT's, BCT's, CT's, and PT's

· Verification of circuit integrity by applying AC or DC current as required

· Verification of solid state relay wiring and configuration

· Verify overall utility relay protection scheme matches original elementary protection scheme design

Qualifications : Must meet the Company's “General Requirements”, and, in addition:

  • Must have completed technical training equivalent to two* years of college .

  • *Must have completed technical training equivalent to three years of college to continue contractual 6-month automatic pay progressions uninterrupted beyond pay step "I".

  • Must be able to successfully complete the relay training.

  • Must have a working knowledge and be able to acquire a thorough knowledge of the operation and application of the instruments, test equipment, computers, and test methods used in the work.

  • Must have a basic working knowledge and be able to acquire a thorough working knowledge of the principles of science and engineering as they apply to the work

  • Must be a careful and thorough worker and be able to exercise good judgment.

  • Must possess the skill and knowledge necessary for certification(s) to the required level in all pertinent test disciplines.

  • Must meet all training required in order to perform the duties of the position such as unescorted access to vital areas in nuclear plants.

  • This is a Bargaining Unit Position

Desired Qualifications:

  • Past Experience working as a relay technician

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
