About this position:
The Electric Transmission Specialist represents NorthWestern Energy in all aspects of transmission system planning, scheduling, periodic billing, reporting, settlement, contract administration activities and other transmission activities related to wholesale and retail South Dakota (SD) electric transmission transactions. The Transmission Specialist is the lead contact for interconnection requests in SD and responds to customer questions and inquires while observing all applicable FERC Standards of Conduct requirements. The Specialist will act as the primary transmission contact for NorthWestern Energy's activities related to its membership in the Southwest Power Pool (SPP).The Transmission Specialist works with transmission planning to demonstrate and be able to review planning studies to determine the transmission limitations and transfer capabilities of the NorthWestern Energy SD transmission system and apply the known transfer limits and capabilities to day to day activities.
This position will work within a team environment and independently and requires a strong understanding of transmission, energy markets, and regulatory requirements for the company's South Dakota operations.

About this job:
SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff Administration
Coordination of transmission scheduling activities with Transmission Operators when needed
Support FERC filings of transmission contracts interconnection
Coordinate NorthWestern Energy's Transmission activities related to its membership in SPP
Develop understanding of SPP markets and identify issues that may affect NorthWestern Energy Transmission
Monitor and attend SPP committee activities and news for issues relevant to NorthWestern and coordinate engagement by appropriate NorthWestern personnel
Work with members of Marketing Operations, Transmission Planning, Engineering, Supply Planning, Regulatory Affairs, Legal, and Compliance groups to develop protocols to implement strategies for South Dakota
Understand and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
Assist in the development and support of regulatory cases in all applicable jurisdictions involving NorthWestern Energy
Develop and perform analysis as needed for other aspects of Transmission management
Travel to off-site meetings, trainings, etc. including overnight travel up to 50% of the time

Demonstrate and maintain a good safety record
Must possess strong interpersonal communication skills
Bachelor's degree in engineering, or comparable field
Minimum of two years' experience in utility operations, planning, electricity markets, or related field; experience in SPP a plus
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office products
Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex operating agreements, standards, and procedures
Ability to work effectively with teams and independently to accomplish organizational goals
Demonstrated ability to represent NorthWestern appropriately in public meetings and processes
